Is there a scene at the end after the credits???

Re: The Man of Steel

I saw this in an Imax 3D showing last night and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. I left the theater almost speechless trying to process what the hell I'd just seen. The action sequences and collateral damage were over the top and ridiculous and I'm thinking that there was no way a movie Avengers level Thor and Hulk could go toe to toe and match feats from Cavill Superman. But I found that those sequences were needed in order to present credible threats to him. I can kinda see how the copious amount of action and special effects would put people off because it's pretty overwhelming, especially with the shaky cam footage. But I loved it though! Faora was a stand out for me. It was great seeing a couple of BSG alums as well.

In past movies, namely Superman 1, 2, and Returns, I felt I got to see the human side of Supes, but never really what made him "super" (excluding the reverse time thing). This movie I felt does this yet still does justice to humanizing him through his interactions with his birth parents and classmates. You could empathize with Clark with wanting to pound the living crap out of the bullies yet exhibiting restraint, or his isolation in not fitting in and trying to find his place in the world around him.

My issues with it was that the transition from Clark to Superman felt too quick. Also the resolution for the final battle was a total shock.
It felt out of character. But I loved the anguish Cavill displayed after that happened. It wasn't like in Transformers 3 where Optimus is remorseless in dealing with Megatron and Sentinel Prime. Also wasn't Dr. Hamilton a huge part of Superman's life in the comics as well as the animated show? And what about Lois' father?

Did it live up to my expectations? No, and to be fair I'm not sure it could have. Superman 1 and 2 have special ties to me because I grew up with them and they helped shape my perception of Superman. But I can say that overall I was pretty happy with how MOS turned out and it made me emotionally invested in Snyder and Cavill's version of Superman that I can't wait to see his story unfold. I can totally see
Lex and the military having a huge influence in future movies. Project Cadmus, Lex convincing the world how dangerous Superman is and forming a Justice League to take him down, Braniac, there's so many ways they can spin off of this.
In terms of ranking, imo I'd put it on par with TDKR, definitely better than X3: Last Stand, SM Returns (which I liked) and Spiderman 3. It definitely makes me want to order the Hot Toys figure, the complete opposite of how I felt after watching IM3.

I'm kinda wondering how He was able to jump from job to job like that. Wouldnt it require some kind of experience or networking go from his first one shown to his last???

Re: The Man of Steel

I think what needs to be pointed out here (now that I can actually speak up) is that this film is not at all meant to embody the entirety of the Superman/Clark Kent character. He's still a neophyte, he's still green, and he's still learning and adapting.

As Zack said during production, if this new universe of DC films were comics, this wouldn't even be Issue #1... it's Issue 0. It's setting the stage for stuff even bigger.

The only piece of advice i'd give to Zack, and I doubt you'd tell him this, let alone show him this....

But just make the characters stand out more. Give them some life.

I really hate to compare the Donner films with this movie, but look how charming, and charismatic Superman is in that film. You root for him. You like watching him. Simply rooting for someone out of empathy isn't enough. Give him a stand out personality.

Same with everyone else, really. I never got a good grasp on the Daily Planet's characters, or the military characters...and more then enough time was spent with them that they should have.

I'm more then willing to watch another Snyder Superman movie. I just wish he'd flesh out the characters more. Especially in the final act. The reason why The Avengers worked is because all these characters ended up paying off at the end. There wasn't much of that in MoS, outside of Superman finally throwing a punch.

Heavy Future: Man of Steel

I liked Man of Steel, it was good but far from great. I was expecting them to rush through the Krypton scenes, but was glad that they fleshed out the origin story with his parents while also making Zod's story arc more relatable.

I had quite a few issues with the film, mainly cause though the visuals of mayhem and destruction looked impressive including moments of Faora kicking serious butt, followed by Zod confronting Superman; eventually the action in the second half felt little too tedious.

Henry Cavill was great and embodied most of the qualities of Superman so well, but I wish they had established the character of Superman in the world for some more time, instead of Zod invading so soon. Amy Adams was unlike any other Lois Lane before, but she made the character her own and I wanted to see more scenes of her and Clark Kent.

Clark and his backstory through flashbacks both as a kid and as an adult including the Kent family scenes delivered the emotional punch (one scene in particular) that was more memorable than the physical punches and action later in the film.

This incarnation of the character is not my grandpa's Superman, not my father's Superman and probably not my Superman either. But he is the Superman of this new generation and though some of his character and universe mythos have been changed or lost in this adaptation, I enjoyed this film and its modern interpretation. And now with the origin story being established I am hoping we will get to see a better film from Zack Snyder next time with a more balanced out script of story and action.

This is one of my favourite tracks by Hans Zimmer from the movie score which was also used in the trailers. Play the music, increase the volume (perhaps put on your headphones) and close your eyes throughout the track as you slowly experience goosebumps and then visualize Superman taking flight.

Man of Steel OST-What Are You Going to Do When You Are Not Saving the World?

Re: The Man of Steel

Yes... it was a brutal and a bit out of the classic Supes character... but he was in the toughest situation possible... I don't think he could've done anything else though... and you can tell for his reaction that it really made him suffer a lot... but it all comes to what Pa Kent told him about letting people "die"... he was not willing to risk that now that everyone knew about him

I liked the way it was handled actually kinda felt his pain. It was unexpected in a good way, I think :)

Re: The Man of Steel

This isn't knock or a bash, so cool your jets...

Out of all the places to see Superman fight, never in a hundred years would I have assumed there would be a fight scene in the middle of a ****ing IHOP. :lol

No. He worked blue collar odd jobs. It really is like that in many areas.

As for the Daily Planet, that one is pretty obvious: Lois got him the gig.

Re: The Man of Steel

Is that your alter ego/internet personality CP?

I noticed the Army of Darkness shirt. You need to calm down bro.

Re: The Man of Steel

To those of you who loved it... I am wondering.. How old are you guys?? I am starting to wonder if I am just getting to old for this **** ;) I am 42.

Weird... I loved Avengers and the Dark Knight films but this one just left me cold and empty.

I'm 43 :).

Re: The Man of Steel

I absolutely loved it! 9.5 for me. MOS has just bumped the first Iron Man flick off the #1 position for best comic book movie in my book.

This is my Superman, Henry Cavill made this role his own. Crowe, Costner, Lane, Shannon were all fantastic, even the secondary characters were good (Colonel Hardy)

I can see where some say Shannon wasn't that great, it did feel as though he was a bit stiff or maybe held himself back? Wasn't too crazy about the Kryptonian organic looking tech aircraft/Avatar'esque creatures, and could do without all the shaky cam stuff in the first half.

I felt the character development in the flashback scenes was perfectly adequate. It felt in the moment to the character, without spending over half the movie on it.

Faora was drop dead sexy (literally), and the biggest bada$$ of them all.

If I had to describe in one word what MOS was for me, Powerful. The last scene with Supes and Zod especially. Did not see that coming.

Can't wait to see it again.

Re: The Man of Steel

I watched the video for 1min 25seconds and cut it off. He sat there making faces, not talking, drinking what should be slimfast, but I couldn't tell due to the amazing video quality. He shouldve spent the time explaining why that game is being displayed behind him instead.

Re: The Man of Steel

It happens. :lol

At least there's is that. :lol :rock

It must be cause you holding on to the reeves version, this is different you can't look at it comparing it to the old film, nostalgia will always win you over. I loved the burton batman films but I let them go and enjoyed the Nolan's much better that is I didn't.
