Re: The Man of Steel

Freaks here in the majority liked it, so I'm pleased that my instincts were hopefully right that I'll enjoy it. As some have said it doesn't have to be the greatest thing since sliced bread, just good and enjoyable

:exactly:

...And I almost hate to say it, but alot of the critics issues seem centered around the second half, which makes me even more excited to see some "mindless violence". I mean Snyder + 225 Mil budget + complaints of over the top destructive action just sounds like a win-win to me. :dunno

Re: The Man of Steel

This is superman year one. Hes not perfect. Hes learning.
Donner had him going to the fortress and tadaa he was savior of the world already accepted.
This was not the idea here. Funny how stuff that is never adressed in other big movies are a problème here. Too much action and too much dead lol
Snyder and co should had a lame VoiceOver saying "city has been cleare fallout shelters are locked". This is a real superman movie, if gods were to fight in a city we would suffer big Time and even superman cant save everyone.
For years superman has been mocked for being the boyscout for having no layers.
Here he making mistakes, getting angry, learning. Its a balsy superman.
Gosh people dissed returns but this is what they still want a ****ing donner rehash!
Thank god Snyder and co dont listen to fanboys.

I dunno. I find it even more ridiculous that because people don't 100% go gay for it and actually expected a little more feeling out of it, you hyperbolic fanboys start trolling with, "You want a Donner rehash?!" If you took a sec and actually look at what we're posting like a grown-up, you'd see that we're all pretty much in agreement that the movie was not only fun, but it was good to see Superman showcasing his powers. The film just needed a smidge more of the "human" element that makes Superman different from everybody else.

Re: The Man of Steel

It must be cause you holding on to the reeves version, this is different you can't look at it comparing it to the old film, nostalgia will always win you over. I loved the burton batman films but I let them go and enjoyed the Nolan's much better that is I didn't.

I don't think it's that.... I mean I was not expecting it.. I do think that Reeve's Superman has better fleshed out characters. I mean really if you watch that film again it is a very character driven film.

But I don't think that Donner's Superman is by any means perfect. I was hoping that this film would have the great characters with the great action.... We got great action but without fleshed out characters it ruined the great action.. For me anyways..

I view any film as it's own. I don't mind remakes or reboots at all. If they are done well I have no problem admitting that I like them as much or more then the originals.

I thought Cavell did a great Superman But he was not given enough character moments to make me care.. Jonathan Clarks Death should have meant more and been more impactful but because it was told in flashbacks it was just another way that the film failed to connect me with Superman's character. The Daily Planet cast should have been saved for the second film.. Perhaps save Lois for the End of the film or something. I did not think her part of the story was fleshed out very well and felt forced.

I am ready to believe I will like this better when I see it again. I was not overly impressed with Batman Begins when I first saw it but I loved it when I saw it a second time.... But I did always like Wayne and the other characters... Not sure if MoS will every win me over in the character department... I hope it does.

I think a great sequel could help me like this film more also.. A better villain would help... Zod was OK but again not very fleshed out. I really hope that the next one focuses on the characters and then when the action hits it will feel more impactful.

Re: The Man of Steel

Most of the complaints I've seen from the critics I've read seem to be that it's simply an updated version of the original Superman movie. Same story, same characters, etc.

They must have not watched the movie... this is far from just a rehash or the Donner film.

However I think that olbertfrog is referring the professional critics and not board members. Seems to be what most of the members are criticizing when the go after the detractors.. Cause in all honesty there is only like three or four of us on this board that don't seem to love like everyone else.

But man this has been a disappointing summer.. IM3, ST:ID, and Now MoS were all big let downs for me.

Personally, I thought it had a nice bit of the human element. The relationship he had with his folks was awesome and the reaction to his Dad's death was powerful. Both of those I could relate to very easily. I also thought how JE related to the other people both as a kid and adult were well done. He's a god among men but he felt like he was one of us.

Re: The Man of Steel

Stop over analyzing it were you entertained or not simple as that.

IM3 disappointed me because I was expecting Avengers action level and instead I got a Tony " character driven story" ain't nobody want to see Tony with out his suit. I literally checked my watch that how I knew it lost my attention its like a subconscious reaction

I didn't love it, I thought it was ok. i am a force of one :lol

People going full retard fighting over opinions like theirs is boss is whacko. Who cares who liked it and who didn't for whatever reason.

I agree about overall films thus far not meeting the hype but as always I am glad their back on big screen.

Re: The Man of Steel

Just came back..great opening sequence of the film. Action was plentiful, but seems like too much destruction going on? I don't know how I feel about everyone knowing about Clark and then at the end he tried to hide his identity.
They need to make a prequel about Jor-El and Krypton.

Someone said it best:

It was like somebody flipped a switch from Batman Begins to Transformers 2 and never looked back.
