Amongst many new series to debut this week, Marvel released Timestorm 2009/2099 Issue #1. And seeing how I'm the resident 2099 fan, I find it only fitting to start a new thread.

Here's the description taken from Marvel.com:

THE STORY:
2009…meets 2099? Future history has been shattered by events in the present! If you think you know the heroes and villains from Marvel’s dark future, writer Brian Reed (SECRET INVASION: CAPTAIN MARVEL) and artist Eric Battle (Batman) say it’s time to think again! Get ready for the re-imagined 2099 versions of Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, the X-Men and more!

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the most avid comic book reader these days, but with the rebirth of the 2099 Universe, there's no way I'm going to pass these up. I've been waiting for the release of this series for quite some time. Now, it's finally here.

Post your thoughts. (And please keep "spoilers" within Spoiler Tags! I'm going to pick up the first issue this weekend.)

Marvel has admitted many times over that the only successful book they had in the 2099 universe was Spider-Man 2099 so I would expect that character to remain the least changed. The wipe clean to try again is an interesting move since overall I think Marvel lost more than they gain in this venture a while back.

The Good News: 2099 is back into the public eye which means that the designs and characters become fair game in the collectibles field.

The Bad News: No way that Marvel isn't going to pull the "separate" universe here and SSC would have to aquire this license in order to do stuff from it.

I flipped through that book, and it looked really great. Only reason I didn't buy it is because Marvel raised the price on their regular books a full dollar recently. $3.99 for a regular book with a flimsy cover and non-glossy pages is a total rip off.

I still want to readi t though, so I'll pick it up in trade format eventually :rock

They haven't completely converted to the $3.99 price point yet. Cap, Thor, and Deadpool, for example, are still $2.99.

So I just got done reading Issue #1. (This has been the first time I've picked up a comic book in a LONG time.) And it was just like old times! :rock Many of the characters from the Spider-Man 2099 Universe are in it (ie Miguel, Dana, Kron, Stone, etc.) Honestly, I'm still having difficulty remembering what went down in the 2099 Universe because it was so long ago, but such knowledge is not essential. One of the "unique" things that I totally forgot about in the 2099 Universe is that Thor is worshiped as a god, as in monuments along the streets, churches, etc. Basically, the works.

First off, the cover art for this first issue is AMAZING!!! Great symbolism. :rock If someone can post a picture of it, (because I only know how to "cut and paste") I would greatly appreciate it. Fans won't be disappointed.

All in all, the first issue really didn't reveal too much, but it seems to have a lot of promise.

Basically, Stone of Alchemax Industries (an oldie but goody for you SM 2099 fans) is trying to rewrite the past, and thus the present and future, by "time hopping" all of the present day heroes (ie Spider-Man, Wolverine, and soon to be more I'm sure) to the future.

This issue ends rather abruptly, but that's just my opinion. Keep in mind, I haven't read a comic book in a while, so maybe that's just something I need to get used to. I remember them being a lot more "jammed pack" years ago. :lol

The one thing that did disappoint me though is apparently this is only a four issue run. :( So for all of you 2099 Universe fans, relive the good old days while you can.

Back in the day, has really been that long :lol, I was a 2099 fan myself.

I also was and still am a HUGE, repeat...HUGE, Peter David fan but I just hated Spider-Man 2099. Ironic isn't it?

I did though like X-Men, Ghost Rider 2099, and Doom 2099.

Doom was one of my favorite books during it's run. Awesome writing on that series. John Francis Moore was great. The first run of the book with Moore was fantastic but when Warren Ellis took over it tanked. :(

I think you'll like this series then. I'm pretty excited about the next issue. It looks like they're bring back all of the 2099 crew.

Didn't spider-man 2099 end up with the exiles, and eventualy retire to a beach somewhere?

That's pretty much the summation of it. I remember Marvel creating 2099: Manifest Destiny (in order to close the 2099 Universe.) So yeah, in short, he ends up with the Exiles, teams up to fight Proteus, and ends up in yet another alt. dimension with a girl who lives on a beach and they live out the rest of their days.

so correct me if I'm wrong, but then this means miguel won't be in the new series, aye? or are they setting the new series BEFORE he teams up with the exiles to fight proteus?

I think it's set BEFORE the Exiles, but don't quote me on that. After reading the first issue, it really doesn't shed much light on that (and it had me wondering the same thing.) But then again, since Miguel is still in the Manhattan of the 2099 Universe and not in Earth-6375 where he originally retired, I would imagine all of this takes place before the events in the 2099 Manifest Destiny Saga.

I just picked up issue #2 of 4 today! It was a good read, but I'm still having trouble seeing where this is going and with only two issues left. I can't imagine how it will end.

But here's the thing. When I finished it, it said to be continued in a Spider-Man/TimeStorm crossover that's out now. Is that normal for comic books to do nowadays? I mean will the story integrate into another comic book line for a few issues and then come back to the Timestorm titles. I guess now I have to start buying the SM comics to follow the complete story???

There was a Timestorm Spider-man that was just released a week or so ago. Not Spider-man's main series, just another limited series.

Yeah, that's the one!!!

So that is another limited series run they made to tie into this series???
