I saw this series last year. Some of its good, especially the Alejandro Jodorowsky story that comes later in the series but most of it is forgettable. Unfortunately, by being on SyFy it will be cut to pieces and censored.

Would be nice to see how this could have turned out with a better budget. Stories in the first two episodes were pretty predictable if you've ever read magazines/comics like Heavy Metal, EPIC Illustrated and 1984. Nice shout outs to Neverending Story and Monty Python and the Holy Grail in the Golem episode. Too bad they couldn't use the music from the first animated movie, but that would probably bust thier already tiny budget. Different sets/costumes/props every episode probably hurts the quality also. They ought to do a Tarnaa or Den episode to tie the show more to the animated films and the Magazine.

Thought that I would put this in spoiler tags but you know, it's not like the producers of this show aren't completely oblivious to the legacy of Heavy Metal on screen. Actually, the Jodorowsky story, "Master of Destiny" which I thought was the standout of the first series features
Sammy Hagar's "Heavy Metal."
The second season/series of Metal Hurlant is on its way so we may see those character/stories on screen. Also, I have to say, "Three on a Match," the episode right before "Master of Destiny" is pretty damn good too. Bottomline with this series is that it is indeed Heavy Metal/Metal Hurlant in Europe in every sense of the magazine, for better and for worse. Now, if we start getting stories done by Moebius adapted for this show, look out!
