Ok, ive posted recently about dying techniques and ive gotten alot of advice and tips esp frm elvis and astro so thanks guys.

here is my 1st attempt at dying the flightsuits to a ghostbusters 1 movie colour. i never liked the suit looking too cream/light/tan and noticed myself it having a slight grey tint to it making it alittle darker, but as we know it looks different in different lighting.

anyway, i got 2 sat toys suits and did different techniques with them both. i used rit pearl grey on both of them but i only used the rit colour remover on 1 of the suits.

i dyed the 1st suit directly with the rit pearl grey and it came out something very close in my opinion..so im happy with the tone.

i did the 2nd suit but i used the colour remover 1ST THEN dyed it with the pearl grey. this made a big difference as when it dryed it looked more darker and had a slight green/grey tint to it to me. esp in the light.

these pics dont do my 1st attempt justice as it is alittle darker than it looks but ive compared it with the mattel suit, and pics of the movie suits and also with pics of the suits dyed by elvis. mine has a more grey tint to it. it was hard getting a good pic of this result.

original flightsuit colour. really light tan

1st attempt on the left, 2nd on right....2nd attempt looks more greener for som reason. 2nd attempt is alot darker in person and the 1st attempt doesnt look as light in person.

1st attempt, mattel ray and 2nd attempt. i think the 1st attempt def looks closer to movie colour for my taste. but its hard to get a good pic of it.

Have both of these suits been hand washed with detergent after your final rinse? Reason I ask is almost 90% of the time things will look over dyed until they have been washed and loose a bit of dye. A lot of the time things that looked too dark turned out just right after being washed in detergent and then allowed to completely dry.

You might be in for a real challenge trying to get subsequent suits to match the color of that first attempt. I usually try to do all of my dying in batches so all the colors will match. If anything I would rather be a little on the light side than too dark. Reason being is I always hang on to my dye bath until I am satisfied. Sometimes that means I may dye, wash, and dry 3 or 4 times until I am sure the colors turn out right.

thanks jon!!! awsome to hear frm u mate!

First one looks spot on IMO

yes spook, i hand washed both these suits after i rinsed them clean so they were totaly clean. now the suits have dryed the difference is MASSIVE! the darker 1 looks very green in colour now for some reason, so i did the right thing by dying the suit 1st without using the colour remover.

i do agree tho getting the tone for the other 3 suits will be tough now but i only had the 2suits and obviously ruined 1 now:lol

ill get the other 3 and do the colouring at once nxt time. i didnt leave the 1st suit in the dye that long.
