After seeing the next Rambo figure from Hot Toys at SDCC, I got much more excited about the line. That one, due out in first quarter of 2008 I believe, includes him in his full clothes with the duffel bag. To tie me over though, I grabbed the original First Blood that Hot Toys produced, which just hit in the last month or two. This is actually the third Rambo that Hot Toys has done, but the first one based on the original film. And while he's got some good points, I ended up being a bit disappointed. There's no one major issue, but lots of little ones, and at this price point, I don't expect lots of little ones. I know a lot of people are going gah gah over this figure, but it ain't happening for me. You can find all the reviews at the usual:

And just a head's up - I'm taking this Sunday night off as a holiday. Here in the states it's Labor Day weekend, so I'll be taking the weekend off. I'll be back at the grindstone for Tuesday night though. Have a great weekend!

I passed on all the Rambos thus far to get the First Blood V2. Seems like you had the same idea for a while but I do like the look of this one. Didn't know the kabar won't fit in his hand, bummer. Maybe widen the grip with tape or something.

I think the hands are recycled from the Rambo 2 figure and possibly other HT figures, so they weren't made to hold that particular knife. It's an overall nice figure, but it's shortcomings are why I'd like to see HT revisit it and the Rambo 2 non-Halo figure again, they've come along way since those figures and I think updated versions would be really spectacular.

Little late on the review don't you think? First Blood v.1 has been out over a year. If you really want to review a good Rambo figure why don't you review Rambo III?

And what's with the Connor MacCleod thing?

Still a great figure. The jeans are prolly the best mass produced 1/6th scale jeans period.

Connor is there for reference so you can see how all toys reviewed compare to each other.

So what is Connor the bar by which all 1:6 figures are judged or something? Oy.

Its just that MC has been doing for a LONG time. No judging stick or anything.

Now I think he does i for those of us on the board that appreciate it.

Old Krusaders still like to see Connor in MC's reviews.

Dave's only about 3 years behind.

Connor - or in the case of smaller figures, the Mattel Batman, Hasbro Trooper, or a handful of other figures - are used for SCALE reference. It's fairly meaningless to tell people that a figure is 12 1/4" tall, or 6 3/4", etc. Height isn't all there is to the scale of a figure, since it ignores volume. On top of that, most people don't actually have a good representation in their head of exactly what a certain size means beyond the most obvious.

I could use different figures every time, but then you couldn't see how a figure compared to another that I didn't use. If I use the same figure every time, you can compare using it from one review to the other. Want to know how the Hot Toys Alien compares to the Rambo? Look at how both compare to Connor.

The King speaks truth!!! Connor does kick ass!!!

And the consistency for scale reference is useful... and its funny to see how battered he gets over time. The Clone and Bats seem to fair much better for some reason

And I thought the Rambo III came out after this Rambo : First Blood... or were you considering this the 3rd release including the Halo Jumper that no one seemed to be interested in :lol

I thought it was II, then III, then I. Hey, if I could keep track of everything, I wouldn't be working for a living! :D

Here's the release lineup:

1 - Rambo: First Blood Part 2 John Rambo
2 - First Blood Coloniel Samuel Trautman
3 - Rambo: First Blood Part 2 Halo Jumper Rambo
4 - First Blood John Rambo v.1
5 - Rambo 3 John Rambo
6 - First Blood John Rambo v.2

Both Connor and the Kurgan kickass... but of course even as we cheer for the Kurgan only one man was able to take him down. There's some respect in that :rock

And both Connors from Sideshow were great figures :rock

I'm reading alot of blasphemy in this thread from my so-kalled Kurgans. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Now go repent in the temple of our once great land.
