EA Sports announced today that NBA Elite 11, the new basketball sim that spawned from the once-great NBA Live franchise, will come bundled with a one-time download code for a new, high-definition version of NBA Jam for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

If you've seen any of our coverage of NBA Jam for Wii (winner of our Sports Game of the Show Award at E3), then this announcement should have you mighty excited to see what EA Sports can do with the added horsepower of HD consoles.

The bundle of NBA Elite 11 and a download code for NBA Jam will hit store shelves on October 5 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for $59.99.

Wii users concerned about their version being overshadowed should rest easy knowing that the Xbox 360 and PS3 downloads feature a scaled back set of game modes. For the $59.99 price tag of NBA Elite 11, players will be able to enjoy the Classic Campaign (a simple ladder-style tournament that pits you against the rest of the league) and an Exhibition Mode. The HD versions, however, will support online multiplayer over Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, a feature that has yet to be confirmed for Wii users.

Can you just buy NBA Jam? :dunno

If you have a Wii.

But I'm sure it will be on PSN and XBLA a la carte soon enough.

They're doing this to get people to buy their new NBA game and kill it's used price. Sports games have huge turnover as far as used game sales go, and EA and Activision are trying everything to minimize people re-selling their games. This way, consumers won't wait to buy it used, because the game's biggest selling point right now is the "free" NBA Jam that comes with it, and if it's used, the NBA Jam voucher will already be used.

This shows that EA has no faith in the game itself, if they have to bundle a highly anticipated "demo" with it.

The joke is on EA. With new games dropping in price so fast, I'd be hard pressed to buy a game on release day anymore, knowing it will be cheaper in a month or two.

NBA2k is king of the NBA videogames, that's why EA Sports is so desperate to sell it's NBA Elite :lol

They pretty much shot NBA Jam Wii dead in the water with this move and it's sad because as usual when NBA Jam Wii doesn't sell that well EA won't understand a big reason why. I mean they really just cut the legs out from under it.

This undervalues the Wii version so much. Who is going to feel right paying $50 for a game with no online and good but not "HD" graphics, when they are giving it away on the other system for "free" putting the value between 0-20 dollars tops. Oh well...

Totally Agree...Not such a smart move...but maybe they are looking at it like this..if you owned all 3 systems (like as do I...:slap) would you even look at the Wii version?? I guess the Wii Version is targeted to Wii only owners...Also another thing the 2k Sports versions have been much better then the EA versions...so the "Free" game move is more to get players back buying EA. Which is a smart move.

will any of the versions include classic rosters? I want my 1990 Cavs with Mark Price and Brad Daugherty.

Well I have all systems and I was looking at the Wii version. Now I'm not looking at any version. I have ZERO interest in NBA Elite and a gimped version of NBA Jam isn't really enough for a 60 dollar purchase. And now I feel like I would be a idiot to pay 50 dollars for the Wii version that doesn't even have online :cuckoo:.

is this the original NBA JAM?

No it's not.

who cares about the new players?

jordan & pippen FTW! :lecture

i love the older players myself, however the actual game play and graphics will be improved, and have you ever even played NBA jam? Jordan was never in it, and the game was great for it's days but would get old quick because it's very dated. a DLC hangtime would be a much better idea as that game is still fun.
