is this gonna turn up to be a paypal drive again?

i kid. how old is Bruno? wassapening with the pup?

It's all my fault. He is just over 8 months old so you can imagine his innocence and lack of maturity and the tendency to be mischievous. Just by that virtue, he had dug a trench underneath our gate from where he could escape in the area outside. His brother Ace can't do so owing to his heft. Since the last few days, he has been running out using that trench whenever I let him out in the yard to relieve himself or just to play. We were gonna bury that trench and install a wire mesh extending below the gate to help curb his habit of digging below it. While we had made some temp. measures, I had left the main work for later as I was finishing some garden work. This is where I went wrong.

Last night, after their dinner, we left them both loose to let them have some fun as well as get over with their p00ping duties. I went in to have dinner myself and got busy with other stuff. Thought of having a look over 'em after a while and to leash them since it was getting late. I called out to them and while Ace promptly showed up, Bruno didn't and I realised that he might have escaped outside again. I reached over to the gate and there he was right outside it. I called him but he didn't even respond by lifting his head and just laid there panting heavily. I opened the gate to let him in but to my utter shock saw his hind legs drenched in blood. I kid not guys; I literally got a cold shiver and felt my knees going weak. He is still a puppy and these couple of strays had completely mauled him - on his legs, thighs, toes and neck. I just couldn't stand the sight of him laying there helplessly, not even uttering a slight wail. I tried lifting him up and it was then that he let out a loud cry; the sound of which has been ringing in my ears ever since.
Those ****ing things even fractured his front leg....*******. If only I had finished meshing up the gate earlier, he wouldn't have been in such a painful situation today. They messed him up real bad guys. ****, his tendons and leg muscles are all exposed. I cant even start to imagine how scared he must have been when those ravages ganged up on him and I feel so guilty for not being there for him. If I had rounded them up a wee bit earlier, he wouldn't have ran out. ****. I can't even look him in the eyes - so much full of pain and questions.....
Please guys, please pray for him to get well. I'm trying my best.\

Intruder, that's horrible. I know how you would've felt, I've been there. I wish you and your pooch all the best, I really hope he pulls through :(

That's awful, I hope he recovers. From your description I'm surprised he's still alive.

I hate people who intentionally let their dogs wander around the neighborhood. So many idiots in my town do that. A number of things could go wrong, from the dog eating something toxic, getting hit by a car, kidnapped, killed by other dogs, and in this case killing other dogs, etc.

I'd call the police or a local animal control about the stray dogs as soon as you get the puppy properly cared for. I assume you've already taken him to the vet, but if not, obviously that should be done ASAP.

Thanks guys. He's a bit well now; ate some porridge and his medication alongwith a few pellets of dog-food. The vet is out of town today and will return today evening or tomorrow. There's no other vet around and the assistant gave us some medication to help keep the infection and pain at bay. I'll have to wait till the vet shows up to diagnose if it's a fracture or just a dislocation.

He wasn't letting us touch any of his injuries yesterday although today he let us clean his wounds and dress them up. His front leg is swelled and tender and the slightest touch makes him restless. I'm fearing that it may be a fracture but it also may just be a bite that penetrated right into his bone explaining the swelling. It is lifeless and limp and it is unable to carry even a hint of weight - similar to how Ace's leg was a couple of months back when he took a leap and landed wrong. Even then, we had assumed it to be a fracture by the way he was wailing and crying when it was just a major sprain.

Oh dear God. So sorry to hear that man :(. Here's to a speedy recovery for young Bruno. I hope he gets better without any issues. He's such a nice looking puppy, it makes me absolutely angry to hear about something like this.

It sounds like with a bit of good luck on the infection side of things, he'll recover. Definitely not out of the woods yet, but there is some hope there to hold onto. Best of luck in the days ahead Intruder.

Thanks Sol and Lejuan. Even though he still can't prop up his weight on his damaged leg, he sat up on his own today and ate some more. His body temperature isn't much elevated too - signs that we really held back the infection. Since it's just been a day and a half that he was bitten, we aren't totally relying on this progress yet.

Sorry to read about what happened to your dog...As a fellow dog owner I know how upsetting it can be when anything bad happens to them. Hope he will be feeling better soon.

they really need to catch these dogs.
If they have owners they should pay for the bills and whatnot. In fact those dogs might be put down. what if they attack another puppy or a cat or a little kid next? you should definitely report this. Or see if they have a home,
This is so horrible.

Don't blame yourself Intruder04, if anything you need to be strong for Bruno. Give him the best medical care you can, and not unlike humans, pets need to feel safe so avoid leaving him if you can and tone down whatever might agitate him (such as loud noises from your TV, for example).

I've taken care of cats in similar conditions, sometimes worse. What's most important is to focus on getting him better. Keep the thread updated, and let us know how's he progressing.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Intruder. I've got a little Border Terrier, myself, and I don't know what I'd do if such a thing happened. Bruno's in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks guys. An update - he's feelin' a tad better than what he was a couple of days back. He sits up, wags his tail and even helped his brother, barking on visitors throughout the day. Although watching his brother play around and do stuff, he just sorta puts his head down in disappointment which just makes me cringe.

Cleansing his wounds today, I couldn't help but cry at the sight of how bad they have messed up his leg.

Nope, these are total strays man. I felt like putting them down myself but gave it a thought over time. They aren't much of a nuisance otherwise but I guess it was Bruno who wandered into their territory and its a well known fact how defensive dogs can be regarding it. He just didn't know about it and learnt it the hard way. They are animals after all and if anyone's at fault, its definitely me.

it does not matter. What if a little boy goes into their territory? and they kill him or something?

you have to call the city to pick them up. The next victim might not be lucky to survive. this is really serious.

Glad to see he's doing a bit better. Is that white area in the first photo his bone? If the vet has returned you should have him checked out ASAP.

You should definitely notify the police/animal control about the strays. Like Blackmask said, they could harm another person's pet or a small child.
