Okay, the only way this new division between Customs regular and Customs Marketplace will work is if the artists and sellers will use it.

It's going to be a little more work for the seller - but I think it will benefit them in the long run. I'd like to model this somewhat on the RPF Junkyard system.

An artist or seller will post something to show off in the general Customs forum. They can add a link to an Interest thread in that post. The interest thread will have pictures in the first post only, the rest of the Int thread will used for responses of interest and comments from artist about when a run might be created.

The original thread in the general Customs area can be used to show off progress shots, questions about the custom, anything but questions about sales.

Is this clear? Will artists/sellers use the system this way? If you were a mod would you know what to do?

I'm not a custom artist/seller - but if you keep me as one of the mods in the Customs area - I think your guidelines are pretty clear.

Sounds clear to me too, I'd be happy to help out here as well if needed. I think this will really help unclutter this section! :hi5:

FYI - I using the ZSCULPTOR Selene solicitation to test the new Marketplace. The posts that I've copied over to the marketplace thread would normally have been deleted from the original customs thread. I've left them for now so as not to interrupt in mid-stream.

I'm thinking an add-on that allowed a member to click a box that would signify that they are committed to the project would be beneficial - especially if it created a list for the artist.

As long as members realize that add-on isn't just a "like" or "dislike" on Facebook, I think it would be beneficial. But I can see people just clicking "like" and not actually being interested in purchasing/supporting the project.

That's true...unless Dave is able to word the box you click with something like commit to buy. But then if a person later changes their mind..I wonder if it will be easy to remove?

(woops - accidentally hit edit on your post instead of quote)

That looks a lot more convenient! The color coding is great and keeping all the main info in the first post will keep everything very organized! I certainly don't like digging through page after page to see whether more images were posted.
I'm not sure though about having to make the mods keep the threads clear of thumbsup post though since the relevant information is all in the first post. That itself should keep info un-muddled. :dunno
Thanks!

On vBulletin.org they have a "installed" button that is a firm commitment for downloading a new add-on for a forum. I'm assuming something similar could be created - but I'll have to look into it.

That's my main issue - any "thumbs up" post would need to go in the original "show off" thread and getting people to adhere to that might be difficult.

I think this would likely leave us with the same issue we already have. If their is one thread for every project in each section the commissioned pieces will still likely dominate like they already do.

I think either moving the thread (once its turned into a commission situation) to the marketplace, or having artists maintain one master thread for all their work in the general customs section would cut down on the large number of threads. With a master thread people would still be able to give their thumbs up and hear about some updates... but it wouldn't be 4 or 5 threads for the same artist in the general section, but as many as they need in the market place.

Just my thoughts on it.

The new market place looks good IMO.

I actually have everything in one master thread like most of the members here, if people are interested in a particular HS I make I would make a new thread for it.

As for the button thing, it looks like a very convenient feature, but yeah, I agree with buttmunch, people might use it for other purposes.

The way I've always done it and thought was the only "rule safe" way to do it, was I put a link to my Official Sales Thread (where all the info is) in the first page of my Show Off thread and then populated it with pictures. I may have put up shout-outs to new specials later on but I didn't go into details. I tried to only refer people to PM me or follow links.

And then in my Official Sales Thread I had pictures in the front only and only used it for communicating.

So the new system doesn't sound too different to me.

The problem with just a master thread at least for me, is that I miss a lot of stuff. I might go into a "Custom 1/6 Thor thread" because I'm interested in the character. But if it just gets added to an existing thread I might never see it.

This is kind of where the blog function was supposed to work - Artists would maintain a blog of their current stuff and when they do something new it would get it's own thread.

But the Blogs haven't been used at all - so that may not be an option.

I would think that checking the marketplace daily would prevent missing something, but your right it does lead to that possibility especially if something is never becomes a custom.

I see your point now... makes sense to me :duff

I don't know, maybe it's just me but I don't like this idea, two forums to check for customs projects will ake things pretty confusing, I hate as a frequenter to this board that things might escape me because newcomers, and old members alike will mix up where they post what, people will ask to be added to interest lists on the main customs form and it will be much too hard to keep track.

I don't understand the need for this one bit to be honest.

Totally agree. We have had a second forum 1 year back and there was a reason it was deleted. Yes we have quite many threads but this is not really a problem but a good thing because it shows the high number of users here. :rock
Like the colour feature. Maybe you should just add the words "commission" or "for sale"...
Just my 2 cents... Btw It is awesome that this board never stops to evolve. Big thumbs up!:hi5:

There isn't a need for it. The question was raised and a bunch of people who rarely participate in this side of town put their 2 cents in for a change.
