over the past 10 years, i usually go to florida in the summers to stay with my uncle bill and cousin billy. we take out their boat, do some scuba, go to the beach and.. COWER IN FEAR!

i got to florida last week and the weather was beautiful. then yesterday hurricane season started and low and behold, a tropical storm instantly appeared. now instead of having fun in the sun, we spent most of last night affixing removable planks to the windows in the house, gathering provisions and hoping it doesn't get worse.

already the storm has dumped a bunch of rain but the wind isn't so bad yet. it's supposed to pass over the coastal area right where i'm at! say a prayer please, this is supposed to be my summer vacation, not my last stand! :monkey2

Best of luck man. I have several very close friends in Florida and get nervous anytime a big storm gets close.

thanks very much. seems quiet now except for the rain. this is scary stuff! i'll take the hail storms in colorado any day.

Don't worry pallie, this ain't gonna be much (Heck, I'm getting ready to go to work). I've lived in Florida all my life and with this only being a tropical storm it'll just be wind and rain. Naturally there's always the potential that it can increase, but with a storm like this the biggest threat is it spawning tornados. Get a good book and enjoy a rainy vacation day.

I don't know...maybe I am the only one but I love Hurricanes and storms. I get excited everytime one comes. Bring those b!tches on...as long as they don't destroy too much...they are like a vacation from life. :rock Plus the surf is wicked good during these. :)

Yeah, welcome to my regular summer.....:lol

Every single year it happens... and I'm so used to it that I don't get upset unless it gets up to megastorm status. Still scary sometimes.... but most of the time we just drink a lot and scream at the sky...:duff

:lol

Word! That is what we do. Get drunk, yell, and surf. Hurricanes rule. :chew

Assuming that nothing is damaged and no one is hurt I *love* thunderstorms. The skies in Florida during storm season can just be unreal. I'll go out and stand in my driveway just to watch the lightning shows up in the clouds (when they're a few miles away of course :D) and it can be just like War of the Worlds. Its great!

Well... Hurricane the SW customizer rules--forces of nature are another story entirely.:D

Storms, hurricanes, opressive heat, ridiculous humidity, bugs that number in the zillions ..... all God trying to tell us to vacate Florida after winter ends.

You forgot to add in all the old people.....

thank you all. it did pass without incident and except for the rain, it was tolerable. hardly any wind at all. i think i'll take everyone's advice and just drink heavily!

I had (well...still have) a vacation to Freeport, Bahamas that I was supposed to leave to TODAY! I was disappointed to hear about the tropical storm and lots of rain and tried to change the dates but it was a big mess and stuck with it. Thankfully it's just a tropical storm and is just dumping rain.

Anyways, my girlfriend and I got to the airport and discovered our flight to Miami (where we would then go to Freeport) was cancelled...NOT due to rain...but due to a mechanical problem with the plane!!!

Thankfully we got a flight for tomorrow morning but it still cuts out a day of our vacation!

The only bad summer I've had in Florida was last year when my AC was out for about two weeks. And really that wasn't so bad once I got used to it. I love Florida. And like others I do enjoy a good thunderstorm and that's all these tropical systems are...until they get to strong of course. Oh, and when three hit two weeks apart. That was a bit of an unpleasant summer too.

My In laws have offered to buy my Wife and I a house in Florida.. Easy pass.

California is the only place to live IMO, we have it all here.. Mountains, Ocean, Desert, and I utilize it all..

I'll take a random earthquake over consistant hurricanes..
