Just a little freaky
Hi guys. To celebrate my birthday I thought I would buy a gift for myself. Just thought I would share some pics and give some impressions as not much info about this figure is available. I bought this on eBay for $380 from Taiwan. I think they retailed for $250 a few years ago. However after I got my Lu Bu I found out a seller in Malaysia has them in stock for less. Oh well! On to the pics!
Here is what the figure is suppose to look like. (You will notice differences later)
Here is the box:
Pretty nice all wooden box, after you take the tape off the panel slides out.
I like how everything is nicely set into foam. No plastic cut outs and tape here!
Here is the figure itself. Head mold is pretty nice. However the head pops off very easily. Very limited movement, to about left or right only. =(
Here is where we run into some issues. The hands all have different sized holes. The one I needed was so small I had to enlarge it with a screwdriver. Further more, his weapon is crooked and I dont know if it was broken or what. But I had to super glue the spear head and the shaft together. I tried to straighten out the shaft of the spear the best I could, but still its very noticeable how bent it still is. The joints are some what flimsy. His feet and hands especially. The fact the spear is made out of metal, I find positioning the figure almost impossible without a stand. His wrist is unable to support the weight of his spear. You have to make him hold the spear choked up higher than usual to prevent him from tilting over. Notice the cover picture. His head antennae are feathers. In actuality they are made of rubber, like limp noodles. This was disappointing as the rubber antennae dont look good at all. I think this was a big blunder because those antennae are his signature look. (Inspired from Wukong I think). I wish they used a synthetic feather. Historically Lu Bu was more of an archer, but very few are going to display him with the bow and arrows. Comes with 3 arrows, a quiver (That only holds like 25% of the arrow in) and a bow.
Putting Lu Bu together was a real pain. Many many layers with lots of string and buckles. I had to use tweezers to fasten his tiny buckles. The belt was especially difficult. Because there is so much fabric his breast plate does not really want to secure down. I had to use a strong rubber band to keep the front and back breast plate to lay flat on his chest and back. Luckily his leather weight lifting belt thingy hid the rubber band. His thigh plates are not as round as the picture, they are bendable but still give it a sharp crease. I might try wrapping them on a wooden stick to see if I can get them rounded out more.
The details of the figure are pretty nice, of course not as nice as the picture. Lu Bu is one of my favorite characters from the Three Kingdoms. So as unbiased as I can...with the issues I pointed out. I have to give this figure a:
6.5/10
If they ever decided to make a Version 2.0, like improving the strength of the joints, perhaps making the spear lighter, and the issues I listed above then I would have to give it a almost perfect score. I really like how the figure looks, and the details of the armor. Its too bad it was plagued by many small problems.
