I know i'm not the only one with questions about the potential value of a piece outside the norm. Whether it's an AP, sample, unnumbered, damaged, repaired, or custom piece, it's difficult to say what something is worth.

I figured a thread to post these oddball pieces and get input from fellow freaks.

1st up...

exclusive hulk vs. spidey dio.

a couple of spiderman's fingers were broken off, but were reattached and painted to look as good as new. everything else is mint.

I would say, based on history, that AP's, samples, un-numbered pieces and the like, will always be higher valued than their numbered counterparts.

Well done customs always seem to go for a very high value if the character is a much sought after one.

Damaged, repaired and pieces missing stuff always seem to go for well below an undamaged piece.

Thats a fair question to ask.... It depends on who's willing to buy it really. If a SUPER anal collector sees it, they most likely pass it up since it isn't MINT. But if you come across someone who doesn't care too much and they can get it for less than market value then I'm sure they'll buy it. But I'm sure it'll be about a few hundred dollars less than market value. Heck, if there was a damaged item out there that I wanted, Id want it dirt cheap. But that's just me :)

I haven't been keeping an eye on these, so I'm not sure how much they're fetchin now. Aren't they selling for around $1200? If so, I'd say $750-$800 Should be pretty decent :) I was never too into the dios though. Just the PF's and comiquettes.... Oh, and the 1:1 busts :D

Its worth what someone is willing to pay..

Tis true. :lecture

Many times people have scoffed at one of my prices. I have even gotten messages from jealous people on ebay saying my price was way too high...30 minutes later my item sold and to a reputable ebayer at that. Just goes to show, we all have our own individual limits concerning value.

Good points, and also a good place to point out the difference between "value" and "worth".

Something may be "worth" much more than it's "value" to the right person. Value is usually the average amount of what an item is selling for over time; worth is the amount an individual attributes to an item. For example, a Patient Zero may be valued at $500 based on previous sales, but a person would be willing to pay over that, say $700, if they are having a hard time finding one. Worth is what defines value.

I wouldn't pay a dime more for an AP or low numbered piece because the value is mental...not aesthetic. In 99% of the cases they look the same as a regularly numbered piece. Therefore the premium cannot be justified in the difference of the appearance of the piece. Only in what is written on the bottom. That said, some people will pay a hefty premium for that.

I would definitely buy damaged pieces if the damage either is or can be fixed easily and the price is heavily discounted.

500 for a PZ? *shudders* That's just nuts. It's not even a great figure. :monkey3

btw Well said Lonnie. You truly are the explainer of champions! I always find your posts insightful.

Well, except for the odd stuff you're a fan of.

Do you mean the "Grey hulk vs. Spider man" and the "Green hulk vs. Spiderman"?!?!?! :horror Wow........... I couldn't even say man. Don't JUST the regular and exclusive diorama selling for about $700-$1300?!?! Man, you have the TRUE grails... :love

Man, you can't even ASK me what I think your pieces are worth... I'm the guy that truly appreciates stuff like that and end up being the top dollar buyer :lol

I think "Value" or "Worth" are relative numbers since it depend on how much $$$ a person is willing to pay for such oddball pieces...

personally i'd rather have a numbered piece. seems easier to prove that it is not a fake.

i guess i always figured the lights would be proof enough.

oh well, i don't think i could part with these two anyways. heck, it's turning into one of those things where if one goes, they all go :lol

I wonder what my Darkness cast is worth. I payed a lot for it and seeing as how the character doesnt seem to be all that popular I wonder if I ever had to sell it if I could get what I payed.

How much is this worth?
