Dropped from Mondo last week, I managed to get one myself despite major cart issues. Curious if there are any other EB lurkers that hang out on SSF.

sigh nope, i had twitter setup and everything, but got busy in the office and by the time i checked it was all gone.

that was a nice poster, congrats.

edit: lol just reread your post, didnt even know they released another one last week. I was talking about this poster from a while back

Yes all previous posters pale in comparison to the Olly Moss piece. I suspect they have peaked with this release but I like his stuff, Stout less so (although I'd still buy a Tolkien themed Stout - or at least I would try).

No, but I didn't bother either. Kind of over mondo with how much of a pain they are to get. Also, haven't really liked any of The Lord of the Rings stuff so far. I'd be tempted by something from stout but he'll be a major pain to get. Besides the best artist doing stuff from Middle-earth is Jerry Vanderstelt anyways and he knows how to treat his fans.

I'd get a Stout LOTR set that's in the same spirit of the Star Wars one I have from a couple years back.

I agree. There have been a few Mondo posters over the last year or two I've been kind of interested in, but the forced scarcity and annoying way they release them is a total turn off to me.

Agreed. Like this print a lot, but it wasn't worth a headache and heartbreak.

:exactly::goodpost: but i did get the black and yellow iron giant. One of the better mondos from a very underrated film.

Yeah two different business models. Mondo's has been criticized and defended ad nauseam. I like the idea of owning a 300 dollar poster for 50 bucks much better than the reverse. JV's art is awesome if you like conventional paintings, which I don't. The man's talent is undeniable but the pieces don't appreciate much on the secondary market from what I can tell. BBTS had the Sauron piece on closeout and I still passed (but thought long and hard about it). What's nice about the plethora of choice now is that all tastes are accommodated. Although a sucker for falling into Mondo's trap (95% of the people that buy 90% of their prints likely don't buy them for their intrinsic appreciation of the art) I do love the thrill of the drops. But really the fact that the treebeard poster sold out instantly is kind of ridiculous.

I had it in my cart then my PC froze up when trying to check out and about 9 minutes later when everything came back up. Sold out!! This was the only print I've really wanted this year. It's too bad because I'm not paying $220 - $350 for it. I'm still pissed I missed this. What a letdown. **** Mondo.
