Out with new, in with the old?

So I thought I'd start a little discussion here about the new Darth Vader 1:1 bust Not a huge deal, but would like to just chat and get peoples opinion on my thinking of the new Vader 1:1 (and the title of the thread is referring to possibly gettin rid of the newer Vader helmet from ROTS and bringing in the older verion from ROTJ)

Basically, I think it's an awesome piece. Jaw dropping! But the thing is, I already have a Master Replicas signature edition Vader helmet. I waited over a year for it! And I love it, and especially enjoy the more sleek look of the vader helmet in ROTS. But to be honest, I'd almost prefer the new ROTJ reveal 1:1 bust. And of course the obvious choice would be to keep BOTH since I like them, but A) I wouldn't want two Vader 1:1 helmets as I don't have the room in my collection and B) I would have to sell the MR vader helmet since I couldn't really kick out $1300+ since I'm a student.

So I'm just leaving this open for discussion and opinions And a poll just for fun, to see what people would do.

simple case of "whatever floats one's boat"... personally, I do not have a connection to the ROTS Vader so the ROTJ reveal would be my obvious choice. as i mentioned in another thread, i wish SST had done a run of the bust sans the helmet with a lowered price...

I'd keep the MR as it is taken from the movie prop, I'd prefer a ANH, ESB or ROTJ version but the SS one while nice doesn't look as if it was cast from the original helmets

Solution:

Sell me the MR Vader helmet for pennies on the dollar and use it towards a down payment for the Vader 1:1 bust.

I had the MR Vader and it's truly is impressive piece in person...I think the helmet looks better than the bust with helmet on, but the bust does look amazing when showing the portrait of Shaw underneath...so it up to you...plus I really don't think you'll get your money back on the helmet they were selling for really cheap when I picked one up and I don't think they are worth even retail anymore....I could be wrong.

Sorry Shai, but that's total BS. I love a lot of Sideshow pieces, but it's silly to suggest that he go with the Sideshow piece just because it's made by Sideshow.

For me, I would say that it only makes sense to get the Sideshow piece if you plan to display it with the helmet off (this makes the decision to make the stand the exclusive kind of annoying). Unless they make some major changes, the Sideshow piece's helmet won't compare to the MR in terms of accuracy, so it's really the Anakin portrait that makes the Sideshow piece appealing. If you're just going to display it with the helmet on, you may as well save several hundred dollars and keep the MR helmet.

Also keep in mind that this is not a good time to be selling the MR piece -- both in terms of the economy, and because the Sideshow piece has stolen a little of the MR piece's thunder.

That's a perfect point to make, and part of my dilemma.... Selling the MR helmet is HORRIBLE right now. But you're right, the MR helmet DOES have more of the screen accuracy, which is what I found most appealing about it. The part about the SS piece that I found most appealing was the fact that you could show the scarred face of Anakin inside the helmet.

They're two different things.

I have the new Sideshow bust on order....and that's what it is...a bust...

And I have the Duel Signature edition of the Master Replicas Studio Scale Helmet.

I fully intend to keep the mask and dome OFF on Sideshow's Vader, so these are not comparable in the least for me.

Good point... But it's true when you say that each of these are awesome in their own respects.

The only thing that keeps me from really going after this is the $250 deposit. But the low ES of 300 is really appealing.

Hi Chris. Know how you feel. I was on the lookout for the MR helmet too, that is until the sideshow bust was unveiled.

I have the MR EP 3 helmets and love them, but I've realised that since I'm not going to wear them, a bust would be more suitable for my needs.


But I do agree with you that having 2 is likely a problem since i suspect they might not be equal in size.

Now if the bust were wearable AND accurate, I'd go for it, but it's neither.

Selling the MR helmet is HORRIBLE right now.

It will be even more horrible when eFX will release their OT Vader helmet. Many collectors got the ROTS Vader helmet because they had no other choice, others (me included) decided to wait until eFX will make an OT Vader helmet. And when they do I'm afraid the price on the MR ROTS Vader helmet will go even lower.

That's the one thing that's perfect fo me about the SS bust.... That it's a BUST! I have never worn my MR helmet, and I never will. It's a collectible! Not a costume

MR's Vader helmet is amazing (and one of the things I regret not getting when I could), but its only a prop replica. SSC's Vader bust is far more representative of the character. The Vader portrait under the mask is the selling feature.
