And with all that's said, I still can't believe you hit 30K, Josh. :)

Josh, I am too lazy to navigate over to the 30k thread and congratulate you there, so...

That's exactly it. Thanks Maulfan. It looks so much better in your photoshopped pic. I like that orangey glow :)

That's often the trouble with collectibles, especially ones based on more modern day film and television. The range of effects and such has grown a great deal. Collectibles companies get to see raw colors and such and work from that to make pieces, but sometimes they don't meet our expectation because we don't recognize the raw, only the altered, final presentation.

This is great!

But why o why are we denied the possibility of a set of three!

(And why is this thing fifty bucks more than the Alien dios?)

The money could easily be covered in LFL fees :lol

As for being denied the others, who's to say we won't get them?

Okay, I'm as glad to finance George as the next guy.

Still, what would the other two look like, now that the pillar has been truncated?

Seriously.

Well, the fact is, the scale of this doesn't favor and Obi-Wan version. a 1/9 Acklay would be just far too big on top of having an Obi-Wan, so if they did that, it'd be on a much more reduced scale. They might be able to do an Anakin on Reek dio, and my guess would be having Anakin atop the Reek in front of his pillar.

Pre-ordered.

And there's NO way we'll see two accompanying ones--- the scale would put them far too big. This will be a unique and interesting stand-alone piece.

Ya, I think that's going to be the case, and depending on how you view the execution scene, this is really the only dio you need from that.

Here's my take on the dio line, there are 3 types of dios to have in this line;

1. Dynamic Relationships
2. Character Representations
3. Memorable Moments

Of the existing dioramas, I'd classify them:

Dynamic Relationships:
Obi-Wan vs. Anakin
Yoda vs. Dooku
Duel of the Fates

Character Representations
Padme vs. Nexu

Memorable Moments
Space Slug Enviorama
Look Sir, Droids

And because of that classification, that's why I think Padme being the only arena pillar dio can work because she was the only one who had her character traits sort of highlighted in that scene. I know a lot of people don't care for Padme at all, but what I took away from the PT is that she was a strong, independent, resilliant woman and her working a way to free herself in the arena, climbing atop her pillar, and combatting and defeating the Nexu to an extent, despite her wounding, showed those traits in her, and this dio captures that. All the execution scene did with Obi-Wan and Anakin was show off some of their skills, but not really their characters, so those dios would look neat but not have any power to them. A smaller scale dio featuring all 3 executees and their respective creatures would be a great Memorable Moment dio.

I actually adore Padmé, and was initially excited that she got her own dio. Especially since Trev sculpted her, and she looks really, really good. Plus, the entire balance of her and Nexu and the chain is masterfully handled.

Still -- there's something about the truncated pillar set into the black base that just doesn't sit right with me. I know that they did it to save some display space, and they have a point there. I'm just not wild about that choice. (And I do have a large, tall display space reserved for the SW dioramas, and was looking to place this one behind one of the ground-level pieces. Now I can't do that.)

I'll have to think about it. And see if one comes along for $150 or less. Also, the final ES will factor into my decision.

Perhaps if the black base is removable, a pillar extension and sand base could be made as an alternative here... although I'm not holding my breath.

P.S. MF, I see your points about Reek and Acklay, and they're valid. Still, I think you're reaching when you say that Padmé is the only one needed from the scene...
