Does anyone here use UPS shipping through paypal? What is your opinion of the service? I find it a bit confusing since paypal puts a hold on the some of your funds for the shipping amount and then UPS comes in later and takes the same amount again. It's a very messy system. I am trying to figure out how and when paypal releases the holds and when UPS actually uses the funds payal holds.

What a headache! I think I may go back to just shipping at the UPS store. How do you guys ship things?

I just mail it at the closest ups store, which is 5 minutes away.

I actually set up an account online with them. Print labels at home and drop off at the local hub down the road.

Finally did the same thing with Fedex too.

I have a direct online account with UPS, but I've also used the Paypal shipping system, and there is really no difference as far as what is available. The advantages are the way Paypal can prefill the forms with the information from an eBay auction, and the recently advertised discount program. I signed up for it, but I haven't had a chance to ship anything since then so I don't know if I will really get a discount. Before, the cost was exactly the same, whether I shipped via Paypal or directly through the UPS web site.

As far as USPS goes, since their massive rate increase, I NEVER use them unless a buyer specifically asks. But even then, wasting all of the time making "a trip to the USPS" seems silly. With online shipping tools, you never have to wait in any lines. You just click, print, and drop off your package. I save at least 30 minutes per shipment by using online tools.

Every time I have tried to use paypal for shipping it times out when the label page loads up. So I eventually just run down to th local USPS for my delivery needs.

Only reason I don't do that is the price is the same in store, so why waste my ink and paper.

1) See my post above. My time is worth far more to me than a trivial amount of ink and paper.

2) Most shippers will make labels available at no cost in small quantities. Check with UPS. So, then all you are out is the ink (which should cost you around $.0005 per label).

I enjoy going into the UPS store, walking right past all of the people waiting in line, and dropping off my package with the prepaid label. The opportunity to do that without waiting in line is well worth a sheet of paper and some ink.

What always cracks me up is the looks some people give you, as if you are somehow "cheating" or "cutting in".

Well, the UPS store I go to is 5 minutes away and usually I am never in there more than 5 minutes. That is probably not the case everywhere.
