Sorry to say although the VTS max was good and most of the parts you can use to improve a custom of Tom's Max. That leather was bad it literally flaked after a while and it couldn't take any additional weathering unless you literally airbrushed it with paint that sticked better to the material but even then it started cracking. This looks like the pleather might hold up simply because it doesn't have that plastic look that the VTS outfit has.

Both of mine are still as good as new.

I don't have any trouble with pleather, though it does always concern me because other people report issues with it. Any figures that might be at risk are displayed in the main collection room which has no windows, LED lighting, and a dehumidifier set to 50%.

That's usually better to have certain figures with pleather in a controlled area. Some pleathers last longer then others or you can try and have an actuall leather outfit made. Which is my plan to do with my FR Max figure and maybe with this one depending how long the outfit will hold up. It is missing one small detail which is Max's name plate on the chest under the harness.

I don't think I ever noticed that plate before.

Small details you have to look out for. And yeah it's his MFP seriel number more so name plate. But That's something I also need to have made and placed on the outfit. I might again get better parts for this figure the outfit being one in case, boots for sure, better leg brace if this one isn't that good and knee pad. This was the outfit I was looking at.

This set is missing the multitool, which is available on the other set. And i believe most of us who customized a Max is also missing the multitool lol.

For ease of having a complete Max out of the box, this is great. True, once you start looking, probably many bits and pieces could be replaced with better stuff. Like I said, I have a box with nearly a full figure's worth of replacement options so this will be great fun to rebuild and improve where possible.

I'm just excited to finally have a complete base figure of Mel's Max... despite the head.

All in all, he looks pretty damn good to me. I might just be excited though.
This will be another VTS+Artfigures Max lol.

I feel the shotgun isn't 100% accurate to the movie but it's better then most options.

The whole point of the figure is to have something that looks pretty good and is affordable. I have dealt with GeeWhiz many times. They are not cheap. I can only manage what this outfit costs. Gotta be in the $1k range.

Nope it's about $400 or so. Still not cheap of course but I actually found another option also thankfully I wouldn't be in a hurry to change out the outfit as long as this one is good material and holds up well enough.

I'll do what I did with the Hardy Max - buy both versions and let the finished product decides which stays and goes.

Two other thoughts: the third party companies are pretty far down the food chain in terms of factory priority; if Hasbro and Hot Toys can't get stuff made on their schedules, no reason to think Present Toys is. I'm not sure who they'e collecting $$ from at this point either, so I don't think there's a financial upside in soliciting new products.

Lastly (and i expect this to be unpopular), the argument that a sculptor who hijacked an IP owned by somebody else and sold a bunch of castings, is being ripped-off when third party companies jack their sculpts is top-tier hypocrisy. I'm glad guys are doing it and I've funded & purchased plenty. It's just the whining has no authority of propriety. I'm not speaking of any particular sculptor here, to be clear.

I was wondering this yesterday. Who do the retailers pay the order deposits to? Is there a distributor that handles all these companies' orders on behalf of the retailers? Is there a Mr. Big who knows the identities of all these 'companies', handles their business and shields them from the retailers?

Like ebay sellers with multiple accounts, I'm sure the "toy market" is China is very similar. Asmus and Xensation for instance. VTS and Dark Toys. I forget who Toys Era other identity is. Some companies probably have 3-5 identities.

VTS; DAM and possibly EKUAZ.

Redman and Dark Toys.

Toys Era and possibly Toys Works, TitToys and Black Box.

DAF Toys; Fire Toys; CGL and Mars Toys possibly.

PopToys; CooModel and CM Toys.

SW Ourworld; FiveStar; Super Duck and Nerve Toys possibly.

There's so many names now it's getting harder to put the suspects together.

In my list of figures I put the associated suspects alongside the company names, but I didn't record all the clues that lead me to the suspicion.

While it may all be smoke and mirrors on the public face/surface level to us, I can tell you the major HK retailers know exactly who they are dealing with at pretty much all times, as far as the behind the scenes business goes of money and product changing hands. It would be a brave (or stupid) operator who thought they could screw over all those guys and get away with it.

You mean the retailers pay the 'companies' directly, or is there a distributor sitting between them that handles the business?

The actual 1/6 production world in China is supposedly relatively small and incestuous.

This is a good list.

Is Mars Toys the same as MToys?

Toys Era and Toys Works makes sense -- but are they really Black Box as well?

I don't know about MToys.

Black Toys was based on suspicion when they previewed their Gotham Riddler, and Toys Era previewed their Gotham Penguin (or Jerome, I can't remember which came first). Black Box then left Gotham alone and went onto other things, while Toys Era made a few more.

These were the only two 'companies' interested in the series, and for once they weren't making exactly the same figure!

For some of the other cases there's more convincing evidence.
