That was my thought as well after actually seeing the pics, but the headsculpts aren’t the same

Yeah, I had to take a close look before I accused them of anything, but my general though is just that so many of these seemingly "random" figures are actually made because of some custom run. It feels disingenuous. I feel the same way about Sideshow doing David from The Lost Boys and The Dude from The Big Lebowski, even Beetlejuice to an extent. Those wouldn't have been made had they not been custom figures first. Just simply doing those figures are customs created the demand.

This look is so specific, that it feels like it's ripping off the custom run. T-Art made it because it was fun and it felt right for a limited edition, because it has a limited audience. But then for Present to come through and copy the whole thing, recast or not, it just feels like cheating.

Sort of like when Olly Moss made these Star Wars posters

Then people started ripping off the style and watering it down.

Oh yea, I definitely agree with you that there's a bit of "riding the coattails" of the custom projects as it were.

I sort of see it from both sides though. I get the "copying" factor, but then maybe there is a market for them and ppl who would otherwise not being able to afford the character b/c it's only a small, highpriced custom run now have the chance to get X character at price point that fits into their budget whether it's what PT is doing or Sideshow. Both are cheaper than customs and therefore reach a broader audience. When there's no recasting involved, I'm less inclined to have a problem with it.

Not to mention, lots of times you have to be in the know for these custom runs otherwise you miss out just from not even knowing it exists. I know I've had instances where by the time I've stumbled on a custom on IG, the run is already long completed. Maybe I'm just not following the right ppl, but again, just shows how much smaller the reach is for these customs.

I personally like it. I would have preferred a straight up Christopher Lloyd head with Rick style hair but then again I could just get a back to the future Doc head and use that. I will prob pit this with the semi realistic Mario figure if I get it. Hopefully a Morty follows. Would also love Matt the Radar Technician if we are talking out there funny figure ideas

Pre-orders seem to have officially begun in China.
Supposedly coming out Q2 2025. Full price is 1015 yuan.
