PS3 is on sale at GameStop for $100 off w/coupon. But you have to be a Power-ups member and you have to print the coupon out off the Power-ups website.

My only concern is now that Nintendo has announced their next gen console to be released by next year, and the fact that Nintendo did a similar price drop before it announced their new system. Will Sony be coming out with a new system too?

Seems Sony's Motion control was suppose to extend the life of their console, but I feel they know as well as we do, that it's just a gimmick, same as the Wii...

Even if they do come out with another generation you're looking at $400+ release price. So then you're going to tell yourself to wait a few years for that price to drop. The question is do you want to wait 3 years?

Considering the PS3 is my BluRay player and I use it to stream netflix, I definately think I've gotten a lot of use out of it even without playing too many games. So for me it would be a great deal.

If Sony were to release a new system (which I highly doubt) the PS3 would be a huge fail in my book.

They got 7 years out of PS2 before PS3 and I know people still playing PS2. PS3 was supposed to be a 10 year hardware product. I'd be surprised about a PS4 announcement, particularly after the PSN fiasco.

I was thinking of buying another PS3. My 80GB is big and loud and runs hot all the time. I wanted the slimmer one for a while now. Is there a way to transfer saves from the old to the new?

Agreed, unless the fiasco has them wanting some positive press. That's the only way I could see it happening. It's rumored that Microsoft is going to announce something. If that's the case Sony would have no choice. So who know? :dunno

E3 should be good this year though! :rock

Well, PS3 and Xbox road the wave of HD TV and the next technology which was HDTV 3D. So I'm not sure what leap would be their next one. Already have Playstation motion. I honestly think the PS4 and next Xbox will be the first generation that isn't all that different than their predecessors except for more memory, better horsepower, more storage, etc.

I'd be surprised if the PS3 lasts 8 years, much less 10.

But still, too early for a new console.

And this deal would be good, except for the whole being a Gamestop Power-Ups member,

I'm guessing hardly anyone will be able to take advantage of this

I think it will be late 2013 before we even have an announcement of the PS4. Plus after the whole fiasco with PSN, I highly doubt people will be looking to pay $400 - $500 for a new console anytime soon. My personal feeling is the PS3 will be the main console for Sony for at least 2 more years.

They'll be trying to give these away soon with all the bad press and security flaws in their online system

I bet the sale is due to PS3's not selling too well these last few weeks courtesy of the security breach and PSN being shut down.

There is no coupon on the Power-Ups site. Apparently these coupons were sent in emails and not everyone got them. Speculation has it that they were sent to people who did not buy PS3 related items from Gamestop in a certain timeframe thus triggering them to receive it with the hopes that they'll buy a PS3 if they don't have one.

I've searched Gamestop's and their Power-Up rewards site and found nothing. So this thread is providing inaccurate info FYI.

I actually kind of doubt that the PSN being down will cause all that much of an issue in the long run. It will probably affect the developers more than the customers.

75 million customers personal info at risk in the first breach + 25 million customers personal info at risk in the second breach would cause most people to think twice about the product.

Yeah, the offer was sent to certain members in an email, but you still had to access you Power-Ups account to print out the coupon.

I failed to mention that. Sorry guys! :slap

You'd think that, but most people don't actually care. In fact, I bet most users don't even know it happened.

Yeah, who would care about their identity being stolen right? :lol

And I'm sure none of the PS3 users have noticed that they haven't been able to play online while PSN was down for over 2 weeks :lol

I meant, noticed that their customer information was stolen.

I know a couple of people who have PS3's and while they got the email, they didn't even really read it.
