Which is your favourite continuity? I think they should have left the OG alone.

Edit. Realized the spelling error for Rob Zombie but can't seem to fix it.

Ah a Myers discussion:

Here my lowdown.

Let?s start with the easy stuff, RZ Halloween is just trash to me. It?s basically a snuff film, drawing out the murders in the most disgusting and exploitative way possible. There is no art in it at all, no style it?s just expositions and fetish porn.

The New Carpenter stuff is an imitation of the old. It?s done with style and mostly watchable. But some of the plot choices are just stupid. The doctor wanting to be a killer was a tired and old cliche.

Now to the meat:

The original was a never before seen take on the killer film, which was really a first of its kind in the way it was done.

The boogeyman was the catch, the idea that this force of nature blazed through this town with ease, hiding in the shadows , unpredictable and chaotic. Today?s audiences cannot appreciate how different this was as the last 40 years have been copying it so much it appears as though Halloween is almost boring. I can assure you , when it first came out it was revolutionary.

They followed it up with Halloween 2. Which was so bereft of anything new it was basically the extended cut of H1. Adding the sister angle never bothered me all that much, but it took away the boogeyman , and gave him a reason. The reason made sense but , did we really need it?

H3 is not a halloween movie so let?s skip that.

Personally , I really like Halloween 4. It went back to the wonderful stalker in the background style Carpenter did in H1. The plot was decent, building in the idea that Myers wanted to wipe out his family , not just his sister. That?s a pretty acceptable story. It?s shot very well and much like H1 the characters are not stupid. They try everything that can be expected to deal with the situation rationally , but in the end , it didn?t matter , Myers force of nature , overcame their defenses. The ending was also perfect. A return to the opening scene, showing there really was some force behind the killings, and it moved on and survived. I like the angle quite a bit

It what I consider to be the last ?smart? Halloween film.

After the success of 4, Mustafa just got greedy and churned out garbage after garbage that was a simple cash grab that added in any current trend in film that was making money. It?s really depressing they went that way. But it was always just an investment to him , and he didn?t really care what happened in the films as long as they were profitable.

So my one and only series is
Halloween
Halloween 2
Halloween 4

End of story.

I?ll give Carpenter the benefit of the doubt with the next 2 , as I am a huge fan of his films.

Very well said. I agree 2,4 are watchable but to me feel more like the slashers that tried to imitate the OG. 2018 had too much forced humor and characters that weren't characters but plot devices. The shape smashing and stepping on heads really felt like Zombie's Myers. Speaking of Zombie, His version is like taking the Mona Lisa, drawing t*ts on it, then throwing blood at it and writing f@@k in the corner.

Had to vote H1 - H6 only because my two favorites Halloween movies are the original '78 and Pt 4. We own every one but we re-watch those two the most by far. As a huge horror fan I have no problem watching any of them if they happen to be on since a crappy horror movie is better than no horror movie IMO.:lol
Personally I thought H18 was way overrated. It was fun to see a Carpenter involved Halloween movie on the big screen again, but that was about it.
