I noticed a disturbing trend lately, many sideshow PF exclusive version of the statues now only comes with an additional art print while the statue remains exactly the same. That to me is a major cop out on sideshow's part and there is no excuse other than pure laziness.

I think for a $300 statue, the exclusive version must come with some unique switchouts or parts as oppose to just an extra photocopy of some picture.

It's lame.

Depends what the piece is, sometimes it is fitting and very cool, sometimes it isn't the best idea. I am a print collector in general so I usually I enjoy them.

Prints alone are lame, lazy and unimaginative exclusives.

I prefer switch out parts, light up features, color variants and almost everything else to exclusive prints which can be easily copied with a good color photocopier. If the exclusive comes with an art print and something additional to that, that's fine.

Exactly, you worded it better than I did.

Owning a piece of paper it's quite cheap for an exclusive, BUT if it came hand signed by the artist then it might be something.

I collect art prints also so I enjoy them for the most part but I do miss having a switch out portrait, hand/arm or that little extra accessory.

Agreed. They're cool but always a great choice when you get switch out parts as well. Best of both worlds when that happens.

I don't have any use for the prints, so I don't care for them. If I'm getting an exclusive, I do prefer a switch out hand or head or whatever, but if you are given what you consider to be a lame ex. edition, you can always get the regular from a secondary retailer for less than Sideshow retail. So, trade-offs there.

Plus the art that comes with Exclusives is original, design control art that you can't get anywhere else.

Right, a few times they do a smaller version of say a print thats out there but its usually in conjunction with the artist. Like Jerry V and the Aragorn/KOTD dio and when we see the Sauron PF I'm sure. They look cool in my art print book with a lot of my other prints.

It's not like you're paying extra for the print. Making a high quality copy would cost more.

And having a switch out part, light up function or a variant repaint is even harder and more expensive to reproduce and would cost even more.

So who's being cheap, really? The company that's not springing for the extra part and giving it to the customer for free, or the customer who demands an extra part for nothing?

They know when it's worth it to them to make the effort to add value to an exclusive. When it isn't, I doubt it's laziness that determines that a print will suffice for their trouble.
