Tank Girl - 7.5/10

Man, that was awesome. I loved it up until they met the Rippers. Not exactly sure why. I think maybe the plot became too serious and busy after that, with less wacky, wildcardness and less focus on Tank Girl herself, who was easily the best part of the movie.

Ha, right on man! Glad you checked it out. Yeah I wasn't really into the Rippers either. I saw that they were designed by Stan Winston and thought "yes!" and then when they turned out to be silly kangaroo people, well, not what I was hoping for. Still, such an off kilter and fun movie.

Yeah, I was expecting a lot more knowing that Stan Winston was involved. I didn't dislike the Ripperoos, they were funny, but I think they just took the movie in the wrong direction.

I like that in the beginning there's a more serious, dangerous world with Tank girl who's the complete opposite of that with her comical crazyness, and there are these random adventures and interesting characters that don't take up too much time or focus from our main girls. Then it's like the whole movie flips around and we now have a serious and focused plot (Taking out Water & Power), and what was once a seemingly "dangerous" world goes completely bonkers when we're introduced to the scary and mysterious Rippers, who turn out to be weed-smoking mutant Kangeroos.

I don't think I've ever seen the Tank Girl actress in anything else, but she did a fantastic job in this role IMO and I couldn't get enough of her. The Rippers took too much screen time away from her.

I assume you were trying to quote the Gladiator post? From the moment I saw it in the theater I always found it to be a poor man's Braveheart and was highly annoyed when it beat out Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

I always thought the same thing as well, although I still enjoy it. Braveheart and CTHD are definitely much better.

Tank Girl was Lori Petty, Keanu's girlfriend in Point Break. She was also in A League of Their Own.

It's almost like the movie was the "anti-Sucker Punch," with this harsh and morbid landscape juxtaposed with this totally chipper and energetic girl. Hell it even had some of the same Bjork songs as Snyder's movie (though they were new when Tank Girl came out.) The 90's were a decade of either darkness and depression (Batman Returns, Alien 3) or futuristic movies that were pretty much campy parodies of the "future" of previous decades (Waterworld, Judge Dredd, Escape from LA, Starship Troopers) until The Matrix turned things around and made sci-fi cool again. Tank Girl came out smack dab in the middle of all the "junk" and I see now that it would have been a total breath of fresh air.

It was edgy, comedic, AND cool. A rare combination for that decade.

That's interesting, because 'Tank Girl' got panned pretty hard back in the day.

I haven't seen it, but it sounds like one of those films that was ahead of it's time.. or something. :lol

The Purge (2013) - 5/10

Man, this movie was *constantly* on the verge of being a good or even great film and just never crossed that threshold. Some elements I really liked, others were very frustrating.

BIG HERO 6 10/10
Amazing movie!
Loved the animation and the story was fun too.
The film is great for all ages alike!

I dug it.

The main dude would make a great Punisher.

Are you talking about The Purge 2 with Crossbones? I haven't seen that one yet. I watched the Ethan Hawke one.

Ah, my bad. Yea, referring to the sequel that actually deals with the Purge. :lol

Yea, the first one of meh.

Crossbones? Is that who he becomes after WS?

I saw Tank Girl when it first came out, and thought it was terrible. I saw it again in the early 2000s, and still thought it was terrible. Probably won't watch again. I liked Mystery Men a lot more, though that movie isn't great.

You need to watch it again. In fact, I recommend ordering the blu-ray from amazon, inviting all your friends over, and telling them that they're about to watch the greatest film you've ever seen. Then put it in and witness their awe at your incredible taste in movies.

Lori Petty came into the comic book store I worked at before the movie came out, she was looking for reference material for the role and our back issues guy hooked her all up with the comics we had in stock. :D
