The Thing (2011) -- POINTLESS / 10

I fell asleep 3/4 into it actually. The set up was breakneck, forgettable characters that you don't care about, video game sfx, a good Aussie actor that has to be an American of course, & what little suspense there is, feels like a bad bottom tier B movie. Sure, I didn't catch the end (I'm assuming it enters the dog & runs away..) but not interested anyway. 'The things' that made Carpenter's film a classic, are emulated poorly in this utterly stupid prequel. They even add insult to injury & use Carpenter's great minimalist score in places where there's just zero tension.

It was on TV, otherwise I'd never watch it at all. :lol

I think I could have found some enjoyment had it used practical effects.. Thing is it originally was supposed to be all practical effects and then they CGIed over the whole damn thing... There is a video of the FX guess (tom woodruff is one I think) about it.

I didn't know they were intending to use practical effects.. there you go.

I get that that it's supposed to be a prequel, but it honestly looked like a cheap retread to me.

It was a MUCH scarier watch in the cinema, with conditioners working on "sub-zero" level. :lol
Other than that, yeah - it was nothing more. Too dinamic and flat, total lack of originality and substance.

It's funny that the only good thing about it was redone and gone because their test audience felt stupid.

Why was the Pilot Creature fired from ‘The Thing’?
Pilot Creature gallery (and storyboard for the deleted scene)
Two versions of the Pilot (video)
Tom Woodruff Jr. full body burn (video)

At least you got the 'full' experience then. :lol

Cheers for those links man, I'll definitely check'em out. :duff

haha thats a great rating to give a movie :lol
I have never seen the remake. Now I definitely will not watch it. I did see the original though
Your mileage may vary, but honestly there's really nothing redeeming about it as far as I'm concerned. :lol

Also yeah - as EVILFACE & RIDDICK mentioned, Carpenter's film was a re-imagining of the actual original film from the 50s, 'The Thing From Another World'. Worth a watch, if only for the nostalgia factor.

Jack Reacher: 7.75/10

Second time watching it (I think, maybe third), and I really enjoyed this one still. A very appealing, bad-ass character. And a much better made film than John Wick IMO. Too bad we'll probably never get a sequel.

Agree. Cruise is physically no where near Jack Reacher, but channeled the character well. Lots of changes from the book, but was executed well in the movie. Addition of the Chevelle rocked.

Loved Jack Reacher as well. I just listened to the first novel in the JR series and enjoyed it (although it was written in 1997 so the technology--or lack thereof--is a little distracting sometimes), and also just got the BluRay but haven't gotten around to watching it again.

I enjoyed John Wick too.
