Just saw on BBC news that Elisabeth Sladen has died. Apparently she has been fighting cancer for some time.

Probably my favourite of the old school Doctor Who assistants, and famous now to a whole new generation due to te Sarah Jane Adventures.

With Jon Pertwee & Tom Baker she was great, one of the best companions ever.

Not a good year for Who fans so far, first The Brigadier and now Sarah Jane :(

Let the Angels wrap their wings around her. She's brought so much happiness for so long. She will be terribly missed.

I posted this in the Doctor Who Spoilers section but I am glad you posted it here. She deserves her own thread. Her character Sarah Jane was my first boyhood crush. It's sad when your childhood heroes start to go but it sounds like it was something she had endured for years. Her acting at the end of hand of Fear affected me when I first saw it in 1980 and was one of the first characters I remember being emotionally attached to. RIP etc...

I can't imagine what puberty would have been like without Sarah Jane, Jo Grant and Leela. Truly sad news. :(

think they should postpone the new series and show a few of the best Sarah Jane stories from all eras instead.

I like the idea, but I think too much has gone into advertising at this point to change it. A marathon before or after the new episode would be nice though.
