The man who cast Christopher Reeve and made the first two Superman movies, Lethal Weapon, The Goonies and more has passed away.

91, what a life!

Always loved his interviews on the old blurays. His idea to convey verisimilitude in superhero movies was a gamechanger!

He directed just about every popular show from the 60s and 70s. I'm a fan of all 4 Lethal Weapon films and he directed a personal favorite, Assassins, which was filmed in my home town. My brother and I went to see them filming a scene with Stallone. 🤗

Another favorite is Scrooged.

I wish he'd directed more films, because I like almost all of his films.

I did believe a man could fly Mr. Donner. Thank You for the quintessential Man of Steel who believed in Truth, Justice and the American way.

He was a hell of a workhorse for a director. Especially on Superman the movie.

Everyone knows the big films but he also directed the original Nightmare at 20,000 Feet episode of Twilight Zone with William Shatner and a bunch of great underrated gems like Inside Moves, Radio Flyer and 16 Blocks.

Sad news at Richard's passing. I loved most of his movies and alot of the shows I grew up on her directed. As a child of the late 70's early 80's I have probably seen more of his work than anyone else's. A true legend in my eyes has passed.

Man, this is a rough one. He gave us so many classics. Couldn’t even imagine growing up without having “Superman” or “The Goonies” to watch.

After experiencing a screamer director in James Cameron (who on-set had a gift for humiliating people,) on-set Dick Donner was a laid back, funny breath of fresh air. RIP to a great guy and consummate professional.

So its true then about Cameron? A bitch to work for?

I didn't peg him as a screamer. Demanding and arrogant, absolutely. But a screamer. That's sad.

Even at 1.30am at a steel mill in Fontana. :lol Like in front of 100+ people (at FX prod supervisor.) Very uncomfortable.

Admittedly on that one the grips had just dropped a Louma crane (with hot head mounted) - hard.

He was always very cool with me though, and I got a couple great mementos from that. His temper was often because he could do everything (DP, production designer, FX, etc) himself, and in the past had, though you got the sense that's what he would have preferred.

Just what I thought, he's a perfectionist that demands greatness from everyone he works with. South Park was right, he set the bar for everyone else. He can do it all.

Loved Many of his films.

All the Lethal Weapon films
Superman: The Movie
The Omen
Scrooged

Always enjoy listening to his commentaries and watching his interviews.

RIP Mr. Donner.
