Seriously? No thread for this yet?

I guess you really have to love musicals and 80s rock to appreciate this film, but I enjoyed it even if this isn't really MY 80s music (I was more into the alt-rock of the time).

Cruise is fantastic as a narcissistic, incoherent megastar (typecast?) and everyone else does admirably with very superficial and trite material. I'm not sure there's much of a story, it's more about the characters - but you do care about them as they go from one song to the next. It's kind of too bad that Don't Stop Believin' has become the Glee anthem - it's central to this movie and the recent popularity undermines it's effectiveness here.

I'd say that if you liked Mamma Mia! or if you appreciate Journey, Def Leppard and those kinds of bands - you'll probably like Rock of Ages.

The movie was alright. Cruise (Hey Man) was funny the music was good. The arrangement and mix was :cuckoo: from time to time. Overall it was entertaining enough.

I wanted to go see this but nobody would go with me... :lol

How was Malin Akerman in the film??

I know people who like musicals really liked it. I was going to go see it, but it's been storming most of the day. Too bad it isn't doing well in the box office though.

I grew up in the 80's so that music is my life but I don't think I'll see this in the theater... seems like a Netflix one to me.

I cant bring myself to see this film. IMO heavy metal/hard rock and musicals dont make a good combination. I have heard some folks saying good things though.

My favorite musicals are Little Shop of Horrors, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Grease, and I'm somewhat ashamed to say Cats. I'll probably rent this or something.

In general, the only musicals I care for are old-school, Singing In the Rain/My Fair Lady/The Sound of Music type stuff. They didn't seem as. . .odd back then :lol I did enjoy Sweeney Todd, though. And Nightmare Before Christmas, of course.

I forgot about Nightmare Before Christmas. It's a good one. I guess every 90s Disney movie I grew up with was a musical as well. Haven't seen Sweeney Todd yet.

Every Disney animated feature since Snow White in 1937 has been a musical.

As a rule, I can't stand musicals, but I love Disney movies. And The Sound of Music.

But that's it.
