Last December Take-Two filed for the trademark “Rockstar Films” and this June 14, 2011 the trademark went through. Many were confused as to what the trademark was actually for, but a correspondent gave a brief summary: “Animated motion picture films featuring entertainment, namely, action, adventure, dramatic, comedic, children’s and documentary themes; pre-recorded video discs and other pre-recorded digital and electronic media in the field of live action programs, motion pictures, or animation featuring entertainment, namely, action, adventure, dramatic, comedic, children’s and documentary themes.” Uh, that wasn’t too brief. Sorry.
Other interesting tidbits are that Take-Two currently owns these two domain names: RockstarFilms.com and RockstarFilms.net. Also, when speaking to The Hollywood Reporter a few years ago Rockstar Vice-President Dan Houser said this: “If we were to attempt to make a movie [of GTA], we would like to make it ourselves.” So what are Rockstar and Take-Two up to?
This is all very interesting and ambitious for a video game developer and publisher. However, I have faith that video game companies have a better chance of making a great movie based off of a game rather than Hollywood. I’ll give you an example–Marvel Comics created Marvel Studios, which has made great movies because they have passion for what they do and it’s directly from the source. The right passion from the right people will make anything great. That is my quote for the day, thank you.
