Back in 2017, a few of the OSR admins posted publicly regarding Jon Deak, One Sixth Society (OSS), and their team of admins. We generally do not like to discuss them, but recent promotion of Jon Deak and OSS by Sideshow Collectibles has raised questions from OSR members. This post is intended to share the history for those that may not be aware, and to have the information openly available to all OSR members. This may be boring old news to long-time OSR members, but hopefully this helps to explain why many in the OSR admin team look upon everything associated with OSS with a degree of anger and contempt.

As many long-time OSR members know, the OSR admin team and the whole collector community here share the love we have for the 1/6th scale hobby. But as always with a large community, drama and conflict can and will arise. This is especially true when someone forces themselves, their over-sized ego, their self-entitled personality, and their sociopathic personal agenda to bully or threaten others in the community. Normally this can be handled quietly with little fanfare. But sometimes the issue is forced, through no fault of your own, to become larger than anyone with a sane mind would normally expect.

This has never been more apparent than with Jon Deak and One Sixth Society. We at OSR try to keep things quiet, but with all that as happened and all the questions, feel it is time to publicly disclose the history so that people can see the true Jon Deak and make their own judgements.

If you are unaware, Jon and his OSS admin team have not been welcome in OSR for quite a while. This was due firstly to abusive messages from Jon to OSR admins. These were then followed by unfounded and absolutely false claims against OSR by Jon. Lastly, he put forth threats of ridiculous legal action and a list of demands.

Jon has an apparent vision of how OSS will become the preeminent source of 1/6th scale news and reviews. There is more than enough room in the community for many good groups and forums to discuss the hobby. But Jon believes OSS can become some sort of utopia where there is no negativity in the collecting community. But this only happens by abiding and being governed by his authoritarian rules.

As part of his grand plan, he sought to form what he called a "One Sixth Alliance" with larger groups and forums such as OSR to gather a larger audience for his own platform. His rules at first seemed just and worthy of a vision in the community. But in reality the rules are in place simply so that he has authoritarian control of its members and maximise exposure to his platforms.

It all began when he requested to become an OSR admin, but we at OSR did not agree with his vision and his agenda. This did not sit well with Jon, and he then claimed abuse, defamation, and harassment against OSR and its admin team. Of course this was unfounded and untrue. It can be safely said that no such abuse, defamation, nor harassment was ever directed at Jon or OSS on our part. To the contrary, we have more than enough evidence showing clear abuse by Jon towards OSR and its admin team.

Let us make it clear now that anyone with a direct affiliation with Jon and One Sixth Society will not be welcome in OSR. That does not include membership in his group - OSR members are free to be members of any other group they like. But anyone that is affiliated in any way to promote or share information from Jon and/or One Sixth Society (eg. website article links, Youtube video links and shout-outs, custom work promotion etc) will not be welcome in OSR.

Furthermore, we do not allow any promotion from members of products associated with OSS and its admin team. Some of the OSS admin team produce custom items, and we're aware that OSR members buy these products. That is your right, and we don't have an issue with that. But there must not be any posts in OSR that contain these items or promotes them in any way.

That may seem petty, but the battle lines were drawn when Jon threatened OSR, its founder and his family, and OSR admins. His words turned out to be an empty threat, but if they were ever to come to pass, the OSR team will rigorously fight against him and any allegations.

Some past examples of the abuse he’s given himself, and his list of ridiculous demands will be disclosed below to show the true extent of his agenda. The examples range from initial passive aggressive statements, then all out abuse, then threats of lawyers and legal action. His attempt to blackmail us with a list of demands bordered on comedy.

But we were not laughing. We found out that he sought information regarding OSR assets and entities that normally one would not need to seek in an attempt to potentially sabotage or shutdown the website. His demands to OSR were his attempt to take control and dicate us and the community. We needed to protect OSR, and responded against his demands in kind.

This post hopefully makes the situation and history clear to the whole OSR community.

All to be popular in toys and sue any one he doesn't like. Just biggest reason to ban this person from group and community forever. You get as trophy bud for disgusting human behavior.

I think Susan was fine in her role. She felt like she genuinely enjoyed doing what she did, so I appreciated that nothing really felt forced.

Though we don’t know the whole story, it’s at least apparent that the situation was not handled well. Unceremoniously firing someone that has represented a company publicly for a long time is generally not a good idea. Especially if it involves someone else with a lot of baggage attached.

It all just feels like unnecessary drama.

But I disagree with the assumption that people are only concerned for superficial reasons. I would be unhappy if this happened to anyone that seems like a decent person.

I believe there are reasons to be interested in this story on a business level as well, for long time fans and customers of Sideshow.

They’ve changed a lot in recent years. Not just in terms of product offerings, but in other ways.

Their community and fan outreach style has changed. Events have changed. Promotional campaigns have changed. Customer service has changed. Heck, their relationship with this forum has changed.

Does removing their long term social media rep signal a further shift away from where they were?

Bottom line: Sideshow is a business first and foremost, and a business must be profitable. So they must feel whatever changes they’ve brought and will be bringing are in the best interests of their business.

It feels like Sideshow is shifting to mostly just be a distributor and retailer for other companies with minimal original products. Perhaps with less community interaction and more of a focus on just showcasing the products they carry.
