Only because this deserves its own thread.
All talk aside about what movies or collectibles will come as a result of the Disney sale, this is by far the best part of the story I've read. Instead of the billionnaires who horde money and see themselves as modern-day pharoahs, Lucas seems to have it in a good perspective.

Hopefully it goes to poor foreign nations with zero means of education. Not here in the US where school discussion falls around what the little fatties are going to have for lunch.

Your post is as ignorant as our educational system ATM. Do some research. :wink1:

Well there are lots of countries in Africa, Latin America, Eastern/Central Europe, and Asia that have even sadder educational systems than we do here in the southern U.S. (some places have no official educational systems at all). Only I can't be too concerned with them right now seeing as how we are lagging behind other developed countries, and our country's future economic prospects are tied directly to our success at educating our kids. If things don't change here, we're never gonna have a chance of remaining ahead of places like China and India, and before you know it we'll be like Japan with zero growth, or the (mostly Chinese) creditors will come calling like they have in Greece and we'll be in some real trouble.

Damn I should let my wife who teaches 4th grade get on here and own you. But I digress she has better things to do.

If you don't like the US, and want to help foreign nations, by all means pack your shat up and go help. :lecture

Yeah, I think it's a pretty amazing thing to do. That must be one of the biggest charity donations in history. Basically it means that a lot of that cash he earned off Jar Jar and countless rereleases was for a good cause.

Well done George, proud to be a SW fan today.

Well at least our sufferenigs of Jar Jar were not in vain!!! LOL. The big issue is there is no silver bullet for the problems of education. The problems are socio economic, cultural, parent, teacher. etc...

My wife is a 1st grade public school teacher.

In her class children are focused on basic math and spelling. They're also learning computer basics. Children have access to books that are letter coded A-Z according to reading skill level. At the beginning of the year most kids will read at an B or C, they are targeted to be around an I to be ready for 2nd grade. This is done in a classroom with 30 children. In any given year roughly 30-40% speak english as a second language and 1 or 2 are special needs or low functioning.

My daughters - in fourth grade - are learning simple pre-algebra equations, groupings and fractions. One of my daughters is in an accelerated reading program. My other daughter is in accelerated math. Homework takes anywhere from 30-40 minutes most evenings and would surprise you in it's complexity. They both have excellent teachers and I have never questioned their dedication or skill.

My wife tells me almost every night about parents who drop the ball assisting with homework cutting into her class time. Many of those parents do not bother to attend parent-teacher conferences to see how their kids are doing. These are also the first parents who will call and scream about some perceived slight or problem with the school.

My wife does her very best to make sure each of these kids gets the attention and care they deserve. It is her mission and she loves them. You sir can drink a tall glass of STFU juice. You don't know what you're talking about.

I applaud George for this, i thought upon the sale 'what the hell will he do with all that money?' :lol

Imo though he should've donated it to countries where there isn't even running water or healthcare, that trumps education

Yeah because the world isn't full with enough morons already. :lol
