I was curious what kind of sewing machines all you customizers are using. I have a couple but the feet are to big to see let alone handle the small pieces of fabric. Is there a special foot or machine for this stuff? I'm about ready to fabricate my own parts.

?

I use a Brother 6000i and it works perfectly for me. I have the option of moving the needle at the push of a button and it comes with several different feet, so I can see exactly what I'm doing. The main thing you want to keep in mind when sewing with a machine is the variable speeds and using the foot. It will allow you to pace your sewing as not to make mistakes, but if you do, make sure to have a seem ripper handy.

Sewing Machines are for girls.

So are dolls.... :dunno

I've only dabbled with the sewing machine. For what I needed it fir I was probably better off hand sewing it. Interested to read the responses though because my next bash will probably require quite a bit of sewing.

I should start posting some of the work I've done. I usually tailor some of my 1/6 outfits to fit customs better and have made a couple things so far from scratch. I have also fixed some loose seems that start coming apart on some stuff. I just do what I need and don't even think of snapping pics or showing off the custom sewing.

I'm still looking for some good sewing tutorials and patterns. I've figured out that a lot of my problems come from not sewing things in the right order like collars and such. I just keep working at it.

Im a costume designer for theatre and so I have had a lot of fitting sessions with costume shops so I have the basics when it comes to cutting, draping and pattern making. For me its about getting the tight close quarter seams that Im having the issue with. Patterning and draping is really pretty easy, just time consuming. The cool thing about this hobby is my subject will wait for me on my table till Im in the mood to fit it. Not to many actodes will do that for you. :wink1:

I use a Janome (Japanese for eye-of-snake). Other than the über-expensive Swiss mark Bernina I have never found a brand I felt gave such a straight, even stitch.
