I am currently making a custom stand for my kitbash im putting together, but it will not have a support system for the actual figure just more or less a nice display stand. Should I be worried about the figure not having any support or once they are upright they are pretty good? thanks

I don't care who makes the fig, how well it stands on its own, etc.... But I ALWAYS use a stand.

Depends on the base figure, how much extra weight his legs will be supporting (through equipment, sculpted extras etc.) and where he'll be displayed - i.e. is he just going to hit the front of a display case if the shelf-gremlins give him a shove? Similarly, any figures near the custom that might tumble and take him with them? Or might you knock it reaching for another?

Personally I always use stands (the small, Kaiser brand things, far better than Sideshow's) - I feel safer and it helps take the weight off a figure's ankles. The figure might be standing nice and sturdy but an ankle failure, a knocked shelf, a 1/6th suicide attempt...

For me that little bit of metal around the waist (and Kaiser stands slip under jackets etc. nice and easily) is worth the risk of lost accessories, breakages, gouged armour etc.

thanks for the feedback. I am going to find a way to make a custom base but also incorporating the old stand for support.

i always use stands. while i have had a few figs in the past take a shelf dive for no apparent reason it usually happened when i or someone else bumped the shelf.
i just wish more companies would incorporate magnents into the feet of figures.

Always use a stand man !
always be safe then sorry.

This things cost money and the last thing you want to see is your collectible broke on the ground.

Even so some of the HT, MEDICOM, SIDESHOW are made of plastic the can break easy.

that would be a great idea - only problem is with those figures that have loose ankles. more than anything it's the loose ankles that are a problem for me.

Yep,
I always use a stand... I wouldn't like a $150.00 figure or more for a custom to take a dive and get broken...
it happened to one of my AVP Aliens... I wasn't happy when the leg broke...

IMO 1:6 figs are suicidal creatures. Better safe than sorry for sure.

yes !! my goku has taken 2 dives because of medicom's crapy stands but thanks god I have cought it both times before It hit my keyboard.
I must have super saiyin speed.

I read too many times on here that people come home to find that their figs took a dive from their shelf cos the fig fell over. Use a stand it makes sense if putting it on a shelf, if its ina display cabinet it's not so risky.
