I can't think of any conceivable reason for making a replica of a mechanical object in polystone rather than some form of plastic. I can only think of reasons not to, including much higher transportation costs. ABS would be plenty robust and take detail amazingly well.
Cool that Sideshow did this to go with their Biker, but unfortunate that Hasbro's bike is the best thing they ever did in 12" scale (remarkably accurate for a mass-produced toy.) Interested to see how the SSC one compares sculpt-wise.
And wondering how much this will be - probe droid pricepoint or a bit less? Or a bit more by the time it comes out next year? SSC must be aware many people will buy the SSC scout then hunt down a Hasbro bike if the SSC bike is too $$$.
How many larger items has SSC made out of plastic (vs. Polystone)? Were the Cantina chairs polystone? Pretty sure the Probe Droid, e-web and this bike are the first SSC items made of "plastic."

Metal rods run the risk of rusting though.
Especially so in my part of the world where humidity level is high.

Right. I did mean an industry standard polymer such as ABS, HDPE, etc. No one knows what goes into "Polystone" except the company that makes their own product as it doesn't describe any particular polymer or recipe. The stuff I've seen in person is a lot more brittle and breakable than ABS and has been used when making a solid object with additional weight requirement - to mimic stone.

Aluminum, brass, stainless steel, tungsten, etc… None of these will rust. The first three are readily available in rod and tubular form at any size you might want too.
True, but it is a plastic means to mimic the fine detail rendered in bronze with a density and durability of a ceramic.
it would be bollocks to use for this, but Sideshow loves the stuff.
There aren't a ton of pics of this bike online (compared to the dolls,) but the video posted in the C-3PO thread shows some good close-up details of it. The control panel/handlebars look incredibly detailed versus the Hasbro one.
The Hasbro one weathered up (I saw one in older pages at this forum) looks phenomenal, but this SSC one does look like it's got an extra level of fine detail.
One feature I hope SSC does copy from the Hasbro one is the clear stand that enables the bike to be tilted for display. Being able to display this in a dynamic pose would be a major plus.
Also from the Hasbro, I hope the SSC one has a few articulated parts such as back flaps, accelerator pedals and handlebars. The probe droid has quite a few of this type of feature, so I'm assuming this does too.

As the poster above said, that looks like a costume/prop exhibit. Armored figures and hardware are what SSC does so well.

yeah, a bit strange given they released elaborately staged/lit product proto pics before SDCC started. I guess the presentation slides were made a while ago... or something.
You'd think it'd be around the other way like with Red 5 Luke - actual costume image first, then product image.

Well well well! I've been longing this for decades.....I'll definite get one of the set even though my home has no space for it........have to sacrifice some of my collections then.
