That's awesome! And I guess I never thought about how small the AT-ST is in comparison. He just needs a 1/6 snowspeeder!

Wow - wasn't supposed to ship until Sep-Oct. Can't wait to see in-hand pics. Definitely interested in this guy - I made a custom white ATAT driver out of a Marmit, would love to have a grey version too. Really have to see in-hand first though.

Just hope with HT's reveal of not one but two Hoth imperials they don't have their eye on the ATAT driver too.

Since SDCC I think it's pretty clear that HT will do everything sooner rather than later, and particularly when they can save on the tooling - even the Death Star Gunner reuses a sandtrooper pauldron. An AT-AT driver shares parts with a TIE pilot and a snowtrooper so I'd bet we see them before too long. I wouldn't even be surprised if that was why Sideshow moved it up - not saying there'll be one this year (although HT announced a Threepio a few months after Sideshow released theirs) but maybe they'll announce a couple more Hoth figures soon leading collectors to think they'll get to it before long.

HT distributes and sells Sideshow products. Nothing has changed since day one about how they sell each other's products and that there isn't likely to be overlap of the same figure. It's always safe to assume it's later rather than sooner when there's already a figure set to debut. It's only good business sense.

Vader, Fett, 3PO and R2 are all different versions and come later than Sideshow's own releases. You should look at the characters that directly overlap for timetable, such as the Snowtrooper (pre-order 2012, released 2013).

I'd expect figures Sideshow has not recently released, does not currently have scheduled for release and those they've never released before. Lando, Snowtrooper Commander, Tarkin, Jedi Luke, etc. Even a Hoth Leia would be cool and make a lot more sense than visiting Hoth Luke or Han right now.

Where'd the Aug 26 date come from? Would love to see this earlier rather than later. Especially with so many of my orders coming Oct - Dec.

I agree with Pixelpiper in that we shouldn't expect overlap of the same figures and wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a HT AT-AT Driver.

I will hold my breath for a Hoth Leia though. I mean come on - Snowtroopers, Probe Droids and E-Webs revisted; AT AT Drivers, Hoth Luke and Han, even a Rogue Group Luke too... Where the heck is Hoth Leia?!

Everything you say makes sense, and yet, the SDCC reveals gave me a sense that HT was competing with SS in a way they haven't done before. I'm probably reading way too much into it but the Gonk droid reveals said to me - and to others at the time - 'don't buy any more SS figures, we're doing characters as minor as this so we'll get to everything eventually'. R2 might have been a TFA version but that set many people saying they were going to sell their Sideshow version. Now they've started on Hoth with the snow troopers.

I can't see HT doing many aliens but I could easily see them doing a cool imperial like the AT-AT Driver - which has parts that can be reused - within a few years. I also think there's an outside chance we'll see one this year if it appears in Rogue One.

However, as I said your post makes much more sense, I'm just going by gut instinct and a subjective view of what I imagined was going on at SDCC. I'm also looking forward to seeing SS's version, as I loved this character as a kid.

Wouldn't it be nice if Sideshow - or Sideshow/HT - would come out and OFFICIALLY say this?

And this "different versions" thing can get a little technical. To say that a HT TFA 3PO (with gold arm in place) and a HT TFA R2 (no real difference between OT and ST R2) isn't going to cannibalize SSC's 3PO and R2 ongoing sales is absurd.

And what about SSC's reuse of the 3PO and R2 molds (black R2's etc, possible K-3PO, TC-14) - HT has now got its own molds, so people start to think there'll be HT black R2's to go along with all that ANH Imperial goodness they showed.

It just feels a bit like you're cupping your hands around your eyes and just looking straight ahead, ignoring the wider picture - looking at this situation with blinders on.

Nope, I'm just going by history and the fact that they distribute each other's products. Neither wants products sitting on the shelf. I expect that the margins for either of them selling each others' goods is quite high. So ya, HT will get to all kinds of stuff, but why cannibalize concurrently when they can sell you the same figure TWICE over a longer period of time?

Are HT's 3PO and R2 out yet for pre-order? SSC's R2 shipped in 2014. I'm sure they've kept making them only because their 3PO came out much later, otherwise they would probably have "sold out." Don't be surprised to see them "sell out" by the time HT's stuff comes around.

Either way though, I don't really care. Most of HT's SW stuff isn't very good. Some of it is excellent. It's a mixed bag and anyone who sits around waiting for ONLY HT's figures is IMO wasting their time and ending up with sub-par figures. That said, their R2 looks pretty good and I'll get it just because of the metal dome - I won't get rid of my SSC version. I'm not going to bother with the 3PO, I'll be keeping my Tama, even if I don't think it's very accurate. Besides those, I'd like to get a HT Snowtrooper Commander and regular Snow Trooper (which looks insanely similar to Sideshow's which will fit right into my display). I'll be grabbing this AT-AT driver as I don't think HT would improve significantly on it in a couple of years.

Some people talk about Hot Toys like they're Blitzway or something. :) Please. It's like ranting and raving about a Honda.

^^ Sounds like folks abroad are. Which means people in the US can expect to wait a couple more weeks or so until their "in warehouse soon" emails.

Cannot wait for this guy. I have a Marmit already, but will get this too. Still there will be longer wait since I got it from local distributor.

I elected to go back to Fed Ex from the US, rather than UPS out of Hong Kong, because it's cheaper since their Hong Kong despatchers were told to put the correct values on their deliveries.

It was good while it lasted. :lol
