Spinning out of the Rocky III price discussion...

What's going on with Sideshow raising the prices on Hot Toys and possibly OTHER imports?

We got Rocky III $99 everywhere else, $125 at Sideshow. You can even get the figure $99 + shipping cheaper from an international dealer (like Toys2) than from Sideshow.

Davy Jones, approx. $130, $150 @ Sideshow

Medicom MGS4 Snake, approx. $150-$160.....$175 @ Sideshow

There are also some $5-$10 dollar differences on some other HT/Medicom figures. I'm not that familiar with any other imports prices.

What's going on here? Sideshow might end up losing a lot of customers as they go to other retailers like their after-market (AlterEgo, CSC, etc.) or the other distributor Toys2.net

Are these price increases reflecting extra importing costs and such? Is Sideshow getting a little greedy?

I am starting to buy stuff from other dealers because sideshow is just getting to pricey.

Well it all evens out. If decide on getting a figure from an international seller you might pay a bit less but the import shipping costs are gonna bite.

I would actually like to know why, myself. It's not just the HT and Medicom stuff, but I don't really understand how some SS figures can possibly be priced at $90. *cough* Gandalf *ahem*

Someone ask SS now! please?

I woulda ordered the rocky figure from SS for the reward points at 99$(like the other rocky figs)not anymore. It is strange how i have to order outta the USA and with shipping it's still cheaper.

This is discussing the Imported items, such as Hot Toys, Medicom, etc......not sideshow products.

I know exactly what it is discussing. That doesn't mean this thread wont plunge into the depths these types of threads always end up in.

You know what, and I mean no offense, it's a healthy discussion, but I'm getting tires of the "Did you notice SS raised their prices" discussion. EVERYTHING has gone up in the past 2 or 3 years. I used to be able to fill my truck for $35 or $40. I just paid $50. My retirement plan has lost a total of 7% this year alone. The cafeteria used to get me a lunch and drink for $5, last year just a lunch for $5, and now I'm paying $6.50 with no drink. EVERYTHING is getting more expensive. Milk, groceries, taxes, GASit just sign o' the times. The only thing consistent is the dollar menu at Mickey D's. It just makes sense that SS would have to raise the prices eventually. I don't like it either. Maybe the slow sales on Gandalf sent a message, but I doubt it, considering Indy and Obi Armor sold very quickly. Get used to it.

Its a damn good point to bring up (this topic)....and I don't see why people cannot just state their opinion without arguing with each other, who gives a ++++ what someone else thinks. Why let it bother you.....but sadly some people have to argue with each other. :monkey2:monkey2

Like any other distributor Sideshow is probably required by their agreements with other manufacturers to honor the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. No other dealer is required to do this. It's the same reason SSC items are cheaper from dealers than directly.

And the other manufacturers are raising their prices for the same reason SSC is. Higher oil prices, weaker dollar, economic boom in China. I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but apparently it hasn't sunk in yet.

Excellent post! It doesnt make sense for Sideshow to try to outprice the retailers they sell to. If you can get it cheaper elsewhere then do it. Thats kinda the whole dance with the limited items like HT and Medi. Gotta get it early or your gonna end up paying higher prices. Sideshow may have higher prices but eventually the cheaper guys will sell out and then your choices become limited.

I think on the subject on imported figures the factor of inflation is moot since we're comparing two different prices for the same figure at the same point in time. However, Dave makes a good point. If the prices Sideshow is charging is the MSRP price then that makes sense on why that is the price and why dealers are cheaper.

I think once the dual Hillary/BaRock (sp?) ticking is nominated, all toy prices, especially the $100+ toys, will come down in MSRP. I heard Barack say that in a recent debate.
