Haha - on Halloween night, a car went by with the Ray Parker song blasting and they screamed out "who ya gonna call?" When everyone yelled "Ghostbusters!" in response, some guy yelled out right after it - "The 1984 ones!":rotfl

I love hearing the Ghosbusters theme on Halloween to go with the spirit of it. Love even more that people still associate it with the 1984 film.

Part of the film was 10/10 (e.g., McKinnon), and part of it 1/10 (e.g., Hemsworth), so I'd give it a 5/10 overall.

It started well, and was watchable apart from some very poor dialogue and the idiocy of Hemsworth's character.

GB 2016 will go down in history as that 'odd reboot'.

Yeah, the movie has plenty of weaknesses. Kevin (Hemsworth) was played for laughs, but he's no Rick Moranis. And the baddie, Rowan, wasn't scary or threatening at all---just a disgruntled guy who wants to become a ghost and lead a ghost army (as if any ghosts would follow him). Vigo from GBII had a much better backstory and Gozer was the best, in part, because it was an inter-dimensional being that didn't originate on Earth.

The most egregious level of idiocy to me was that the mayor and Homeland Security were wise to ghosts in New York---as if they'd have a clue or be prepared in any way to deal with them. Well, that and Paul Feig brought back Aykroyd, Murray and Hudson for cameos. Presumably that was to give the movie credibility among fans, but it just reminded me that as long as those guys are still around, they could have just made another Ghostbusters movie with them or done a pass-the-baton plot to tie in the first two movies. Maybe it's better that they didn't though.

It's a shame because, IMO, the casting choices for the four female Ghostbusters was great and their characters were all well-developed and likeable.

When I sit down to watch a movie or TV series, I am compelled to pay complete and full attention. The only two recent movies I've rented and watched that bored me enough to start playing on my phone after 30 minutes have been the new Ghostbusters and Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The movie wasn't bad, it just lacked any sort of forward momentum in terms of plot or pacing. Just way too many scenes of prolonged improv that didn't move the story forward or develop the characters. It's like a musical where the songs serve as a device to move the plot forward (The Producers) vs. a musical where the characters stop and stand around to sing each and every song, bringing the plot to a screeching halt (Phantom of the Opera).

Also I thought Kate McKinnon was the weakest part of the film--she acted as if she was in just another SNL sketch the entire time. I found Hemsworth to be quite funny with his delivery even if the "joke" of his idiocy was very overdone.

I thought the actresses were good and the movie had a decent amount of laughs in it, but the story was just too much of an uninspired rehash of the original, and it leaned much more towards being a silly SNL spoof than a true horror-comedy.

What made the original movie work so well is that, beneath the joking around, Gozer and Zuul actually felt like real threats to the world that the characters were seriously concerned by. But in the new movie the characters never seem to take anything that happens very seriously. It's all just one big joke to them.

Agree with these. To touch on that, the part in the 1984 film when the Ghostbusters pull up in Ecto-1 and everyone starts cheering gives me goosebumps, as the crowd knows that the Ghistbusters are the only ones that can eliminate the issue at hand. I also like when Venkman brings the group in for a motivational pump up, amid the cheering crowd. "They wanna play rough. You guys wanna play rough? Let's go!"

I have not seen the new film but i thought they should have had one of them be one of the orignals daughters like Venkman. Some ghost or demon starts trouble Then he could have said " I'm told old for this crap and your smart you do it, i'm going to go to lunch". Then it could build from there.

I have been trying to put words on why I didn't like McKinnon in GB. Those were the once I was looking for. She wasn't bad, but she was easily the weakest of the four. Thank you, sir

Except in SNL you usually get the original cast as the original characters & have some guest star as an additional character.

Reposting my post from the Blitzway Ghostbusters thread:

To add to the controversy.

What if Dave's source was telling the truth?

I present to the court Exhibit A:

When Soldier Story first showed their figures, the cards with them said: "Product Under Review", with the original Columbia name and current Sony copyright.

And now Exhibit B:

The latest show photos don't have those cards, but one that reads "Ghostbuster [sic] Coming Soon".

:panic:

Any news at all on that Holtzman figure?

I love the ghost logo stand that the soldier story figures come with i.e the stand under that Venkman figure in the above pic.

I am thinking of getting at least one of the two SS ghostbuster figures for the different proton pack, I have the blitzway 4 pack preordered. I like the special edition venkman suit better but think his headsculpt sucks so will most likely ket egon and think about venkman that way I can display them in the special edition suits along with the blitzway 4 pack.

What's with that SS Suited Venkman Sculpt :lol I feel like I've seen both Ghostbusters a million times each and I can't remember him making that face.

These are the only times I recall him making any face that even closely resembles that in either movie:

Unless someone knows an instance that I'm missing lol

That Venkman headsculpt merits immediate induction into the 1/6 scale Hall of Shame...
