Quick and simple, it's the suspense. Sometimes it works for me, sometimes it doesn't. Also we have to look at what else there was to compare it to at the time.

I just outgrew Transformers altogether. When Bayformers 2 came out, I got on a kick of watching the original G1 cartoons. Enjoyed them for what they were, but these days I'm just indifferent to the entire Transformers franchise.
Sounds like you read that other people thought it was garbage and followed suit. But don't worry, lots of people let others decide for them.

This era we live in really annoys me sometimes
It's not SW that's the problem ..it's Disney conforming to the theme of PC
Disney can't help but shove PC down our throats in everything they do

The first film was great. Its a shame the second film was such a massive step down but the WGA Strike def had alot to do with that. Part III was better but still problematic. Loved the action and Nimoy's role though. Part IV like III had some good stuff in it. Bay always wins with the spectacle and Kelsey Grammer is awesome.
Waiting for The Last Knight to hit Digital so I can watch it.

Looks like they just became best friends due to the shared opinion that Michael Bay Transformers are better than Rogue One, JAWS, etc.
