HI all,

I'm a designer so I was wondering what your thoughts are on the printed PF boxes.. are they needed? Could plain brown cartons with some printing do the job? Once the item is removed aren't the boxes stored or thrown out. Not to mention if a box gets a bit dented in the corners when shipped there are no complaints with a brown box.... Also plain boxes could reduce the price of the PF possibly... what do you all think?

Here's the thing... if they switch to all plain boxes it will save them money, but I guarantee you we wouldn't see a penny of that savings on the consumer side. Enterbay just did something similar to this with their 1:4 Rambo. They came up with a generic foam package and even boasted about how much savings it would be on shipping and vs custom packaging. Then the figure went up for order and it's the same exact price shipped that the T2 was, which was heavier and featured custom packaging. So if you think the cost of PFs would drop if Sideshow cuts corners with packaging, you're probably dreaming.

So I say keep the packaging. Even if most of us don't display boxes, anything that gives you more value for your purchase is a bonus, IMHO.

Realistically I don't give a ____ if it's in a beautiful 8 color box with holographic labels and voice recordings of the actor or a brown paper bag that has been duct taped and thrown at my door, I just care what's inside. :dunno

I think you're delusional if you think them removing the box art will equate to a price decrease. Plus, the box art helps retailers who don't want to open the product, showcase it.

There have been printed shippers which I find annoying - I don't need people to know immediately what I'm receiving.

I have noticed the art boxes have become simpler recently (since Q left?) - with just a logo on the front and maybe a photo on the side.

All good points.., we have discussions like this at work all the time...over product, price point and savings, vs. design and manufacturing. I thought it would be cool to see what others think...:) Thanks!

I like the art but hate the price of the PF statues. It should be 300.00 and not 350 to 400.00 now. So with shipping each statue is now way too much. If SS keeps this up they could kill their own business.

I couldn't tell you what most of the boxes look like. I never take the whole box out of the brown shipper

I thought I was the only one that did that :lol I never see the art box unless there isn't a shipper with it.

I think when you are buying a quarter pounder from Mcdonalds then it doesn't matter about the packaging as it gets thrown away but the art boxes are a part of the collectible as they need to be kept in-case you need to store it or you are moving house. You try and sell a statue without the art box and see what the difference is when you sell it with the box.

Two things I have to say about box art.

One, it is primarily done for retail, so that on the ground outlets have something appealing and attention grabbing to display without taking an actual high end product out and using that as a display piece (though that of course does still selectively happen). No store wants to see brown shippers on their shelves, making the place look like a warehouse. As such for as long as Sideshow is selling their product to retail outlets the box art will continue.

Two, as has already been mentioned, even if they stopped using the art boxes for online orders, it isn't us that would be seeing any savings, it would be them. Sideshow (and most other companies for that matter) don't exactly have a reputation for passing on cost savings to consumers. Plus, too many collectors would get up in arms about removing the art boxes anyway, as happens whenever anything that was once a staple is then taken away. Just not worth the effort really.

My take anyhow.
