I might be too late to have this figure but still like to share my experience. I have been viewing the reviews and pictures of this figure for 6months now and finally decided to buy after finding a good deal. Then to my disappointment, I broke the left arm. I felt stupid because this is the 2nd sideshow figure that I broke. At the same time I feel like blaming Sideshow's QC. First Sideshow I broke was Catwoman's leg which I happened while I was just simply posing the leg without any force. Then this one happened again on the same day I took it out of the box. I have been collecting Hot Toys for 4 years now and have never broken any of their bodies. And this 1/6 Superman is just my 4th Sideshow figure and the 2nd one I broke. Partly my fault because I was too confident with Sideshow's male bodies and thought only the female ones have the issues specifically at the crotch area.

So I decided to take the risk of undressing him by opening the back of the suit even if I am not good in modifying 1/6 figures and customizing them. Then I replace the body with Hot Toys TTM 20 and I find that the spandex Superman suit fits well on this type of body. I stitched the suit back, and although I can't do I nice stitch at the back of the suit, it is mostly covered by the cape so it is not noticably bad. Below are the photos. I actually like it better because he looks skinnier before and the head looked bigger than the original body since he has a large jaw. Sorry for the very long post. 😅

Body doesn't look that bad, but I would sculpt some muscles onto it. At least give the man some abs. It's not that hard to do.

You can also boil some water, dip the lower part of the head in it for a min or two, squeeze the lower jaw in a bit and then run under some cold water to make it a little smaller.

You did a great job sewing up the back of the figure. I liked everything about that figure except the body. SSC had the best intentions but the execution is what disappointed me. I have done the same and the proportions match up well with the larger head on Supes. The suit dies a nice job in stretching over the larger Arnold body. Thank you for sharing.

Great mods. I reckon they look good, but you still need to alter the jawline. I thinned out the jawline on the inside, so it could be drawn in further.
It results in less of a bucket jaw.

Thanks.
Just removed the peg and the white eye plates, and replaced them with white BBs.
"Poor man's PERS". They can be moved for eye posing. I also added LEDs to the heat vision sculpt.

Wow, drilling holes into the BBs really makes a difference. I may have to give the SSC Superman head another look. Thank you for sharing.

No worries. I drilled a small hole for the pupils and using that one as a guide, hand drilled a larger one as the iris. Then just used a sharpie for the colouring, scratching lines in it with a needle.

Yeah I agree with everything you said. They had the best intentions, but really have to improve their executions and also their QC. Thanks for the reply by the way.

Way to salvage a figure, buddy. I always though that the body SS used for supes was way to small. Especially compared to the body they use for bats.
I've also had to do body swaps to fit the vision I had for the heroes. Great work.

Imo, The Arnie body doesn't look better, aesthetically, than the SS one. Yes the SS body might be smaller, but the Arnie body has saggy moobs and no muscle definition. The SS body looks like Superhero body.

I reckon it's the trunk and thick legs that slightly ruin the effect. I have taken apart a TTM20 to change the arms, so i know the mid section could be replaced. I think the TTM20 upper and a TTM19 lower might look a bit better.

Thank you. 😅 I am not really a customizer of figures but I am quite happy with how the HT TTM20 turned out and it feels easier to articulate. The lesser muscle definition does not really bother me that much because he still looks more buffed than before.

Thank you for sharing this. The LED light up eyes custom is very impressive. It looks a lot better and he does not look like he is crying with blood tears. Do you also mind sharing the type of LED that you used? I might want to try this too.

I am not sure, to be honest. For another job I ordered a big bag of LEDs from an eBay seller. It was fifty pairs each of red, blue, white and UV. I'd have to guess they are just 1.5v ultra bright 5mm LEDs but other than that, I don't know specifics.
I also made a jig the exact distance apart as the eye sockets with two drilled 5mm holes in a scrap piece of 8mm plastic. The LEDs get sat in there, at correct distance apart, and soldered together in situ. Then I test fit them and add the power pack. I reckon it would be possible to paint the LEDs with a few light coats of white too before installing them. The LEDs would still shine through that.

Thanks for sharing your ideas. I managed to get red LED lights from China and light them up using 2 - 1.5v coin batteries. This is my first attempt in customizing a sideshow head because I am really inspired by your LED light up eyes custom. So I feel like Im taking a big risk. May I know how you managed to remove the head's ball peg hole inside? Mine seems to be too tough to remove and i feel like I might tear the chin because it feels softer in that part of the head sculpt.

Stick the head in a cup of boiling water. Leave it a few minutes(Like three minutes, so the entire head is at or near the boiled water temp), and when you(Carefully) remove the head, use needle nosed pliers to grab the ball joint and the front of the neck peg part. Gently twist the head one way and the peg part the other. It might take a few dunks in the boiling water, but eventually the peg will loosen the superglue and release. Once you are done, pop the peg part back into the head and dunk it into the boiling water again. This will make sure they are keyed together again. Then remove from the water and run it under the cold tap. The neck peg part will remove easier this time, and you can now remove the eyeball plate.
