Decades before blockbuster Extended Cuts were common, Superman proved a true “Man of Tomorrow.” Superman: The Movie received an ahead-of-its-time makeover for its television premiere – nearly 40 more minutes of story, creating a two-night television event. Audiences had already been swept off their feet by Christopher Reeve’s Last Son of Krypton, and now there was more to enjoy. Unseen in decades, this version is paired here with Richard Donner’s definitive vision of his film, the Special Edition Director’s Cut (2000), to create a supersized celebration of Metropolis’ favorite son that preserves the director’s intent while feeding superfan demands.

thought this might be of interest to some on here :)

Curious as the special edition long version blu is right around 152 minutes or so. I will have to pick this up

Most of those scenes are really really bad, especially the ones with the dam.

Honestly, the only one I like is when Superman returns to stop Lex from killing Ms. Tessmacher.

I like the scenes where he gets through all of Lex's traps

Yeah as a kid those were some of my favorite scenes in the movie. The first time I saw Superman: The Movie was on TV and it was years before I learned that those scenes weren't originally in the film.

I still remember us recording it on VHS but it came on at like 9:00 or something and my parents said I could watch it till 9:30. I was excited to see some of it that evening until I discovered that the ****ING OPENING CREDITS didn't end till like 9:25. :banghead I was so pissed. :lol

Yep the good old days when we had to stay up to watch and edit out commercials. We have it so good today. I love watching the classics on the big screen when I can to recapture some of the childhood memories

I'm not sure I ever saw the made for TV cut of this one. Might have to check it out. Pretty sure the Betamax copy I had as a kid was the regular film.

I've never seen Lex try to murder Miss Teshmacher.

i think fabs is referring to a bit at the end where , unnecessary spoiler tags :lol

lex is playing piano while eve is lowered into the pit of creatures lex keeps as pets ,supes fly's down and rescues her ,off screen sadly :thud: and drops her off saying your mother sends her love :lol

Neither have I. But I *have* seen Lex's booby traps. :dunno

so have i and ive also seen Miss Teshmacher,s "booby tapes ":lol

they taped her nips in the bit in the pool where she saves supes ,to stop them poking out in the cold water , apparently :lol
