I have a figure that looks just like a friend of mine. He has a rather intricate tattoo on his upper arm/shoulder, my friend, not the figure. I was looking for a simple/easy way to put the tat on a decal and apply it to the arm. Has anyone tried such a thing? Do you have any pix of the results if you did?

i was wondering the same actually. i myslef have a full ghobusters sleeve and a WIP chest piece and was thinking of doing a custom figure of myself sometime down the line and wondered if there was away to recreate the tattoos and apply them to the arm??? a transfer? not sure. and painting it on the arm aint appealing aha.

if theres no soutions id have to make sure i use a long sleeve shirt when i do my own figure sometime.

may want to look into printable water slide decals. knowing the print would need to be sealed with dulcote or something before emmersing in water.

any sites or links to check out, if not ill google that. im little in the dark on those

thanks

ive never used them but a buddy of mine does hot wheels customs and uses them all the time. i will check with him and find out whats best to use and what to avoid or a good link to a website.

yeah thanks for that.

thats the only thing i could think of, using some sort of transfer?? and without giving the arm that 'sticker' look.

I was commissioned to make this 12 inch Crying Freeman few years back using Hot Toy Muscle Body. I had make some research and discovered that we can actually paint tattoos on rubber muscle body by using 'Citidel Paint' It looks like water base paint but has very strong bond on almost any surface. I think u can use this method to paint tattoo onto normal 12 inch plastic body but u will have to paint at least 5 layers or more on each and every lines if u are painting on rubber surfaces so that the paint will not peel off easily. As for how to put the tattoo sketch onto the body, u can either do it with free hand drawing(if u can draw well) or u can actually photostat the picture(preferably black & white colour) onto transparency and then keep on rescale the picture with the help on the photocopy m/c until the exact size that fits nicely onto the body area where u intend to position the body. Then, trace it onto a tracing paper with a pencil(remember to flip the image b4 u transfer it onto the tracing paper). Next, shade the tracing paper black with your pencil, place and hold it onto the body by using scotch tape and trace the picture onto the body. Lastly, u can start outlining and paint the tattoo picture. Here are pics of the tattoo paint work I had done for this 12 inch Crying Freeman Custom. I hope all these tips can help. Cheerz...:D

those are really cool,. altho i wondered if there was alos a way without having to paint onto the figures. as mentioned transfers by using pics of the actual tat2s. or something/?

Maybe decal transfers can get this done but not easy to get it printed on decal. Moreover, painted on tattoos looks more natural. Especially by using citidel paint because it's very very fine!!! Just like water. That' y even if it's dry already, it's like without thickness. Anyway, these are just what I experienced and it's up to u to decide which way suits u better. Cheerz...:D

I have to agree with Jon as well... I don't think decals would work very well, as they would probably bunch up during application and could distort the image. I still think that freehand is best.

I did the full torso tattoo for the cat from Prison Break. Washed the body, flat coated it. Drew it on with a pencil, then used a drafting marker. Worked areas in stages, then went on to use chalk pastels for shading. Clear coat, then done. If you want them to look a little faded, just mist over the body with a flesh & it now looks under the skin. Unlike decals it will hold up under handling & can create anything

Ok, painting seems better, but for the unexperienced hand to do finite work in a small area.....?
Seems lose/lose to me. The decals will bunch and the painting won't look like the actual ink work. :banghead
