I was thinking today and realized that a lot of stuff that was great came from the 80's.

Cartoons, movies, and live action T.V. shows. Sure us old folks like me around here remember the A-Team and stuff like that but what about the Future, and what does that say about our lucky childhoods?

Not to dog on the 90's but the 80's had some awesome stuff. I started collecting when my parents bought me my first Star Wars figure, then Transformers, then GI Joe, then Voltron, and so forth.

So what does the future hold?

Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse?

Actually you are right in a weird way that movie was so bad that its awesome, I wouldn't mind something like that. But then again its only something really weird I would have in my collection.

Ha Ha to bad thats all the future holds :(

Sometimes I think the 80s hit a peak in original ideas that has yet to be topped. I think the maturing CG graphics of this decade encouraged a lot of remakes.

Yeah that stuff is all great Dino but in the last decade has anything stood out to you that could top the original Star Wars or Indiana Jones?

Good point.
I would say Lord of the Rings (not topping, but up there with them), but it's origins are way before Star Wars and Indy.
When it comes to originality I'm struggling.

I would have to say Pixar are the most original movie makers today

I think great things could come but that's if people stop being lazy and actually put an effort into things instead of giving us what we've seen hundreds of times over.

In 10-15 years, someone will be posting, "man, no offense to the 2000s, but the 1990s was really the peak of all things awesome. We had Power Rangers, Pokeman, Nintendo 64, Backstreet Boys. Now all we get are Power Rangers sequel movies, sold out Backstreet Boy reunion shows, and Pokeman PFs from Sideshow. I wonder if we will ever see that much innovation and creativity again! People are just getting lazy nowadays."

The 80s are big because we, the children of the 80s, are the ones making the income to spend on stuff right now. In 10 years when the children of the 90s start hitting that stride you'll see a resurgance of stuff from then. What is interesting is the children of now are enjoying many of the same things that we did in the 80s which means that in a few generations it'll all come back again because that is what they knew.

I totally agree with karamazov80 and The Mike. There are great things in all period but between 2 things people love, most of them will choose the one they have a sentimental link with, like nostalgia.

And don't forget Indiana Jones is inspired by old pulps. It was a retro movie.
