Venom in ultimate was created by Richard Parker and Eddie Brock sr as a cancer suit but it was to dangerous. I rather them go that route then it came from john Jameson's ship. It's much easier.

I reckon they'll go the Ultimate route, to differentate it from the last adaption and because Richard Parker has been set up as a character that is against Oscorps plan for his work.

If it is a Cancer cure then it being called "Venom" is awfully odd.

With the exception of Magneto and Dr. Doom, not too many Marvel villains have great characterization. He could be great on screen and creepy as well if executed by some people who actually have some vision...

Spider-Man has always had such a colorful assortment of villains...and just like the three villains in this movie, what you got in the comics may not be what you get here. Venom can be just as good if not better than any villain in this film.

:exactly:

Venom is a character with alot to work with. He can easily be an excellent movie villian if done right.

Well in the Ultimate universe Doc Oct actually created the small sample from Peters blood. This was also when he was working under Oscorp so I can see this fitting into the story.

Sony Pictures Announces Spider-Man Spinoffs Venom and Sinister Six

from Superherohype:

In a move said "to forge a new legacy in the story of Peter Parker on screen," Sony Pictures Entertainment announced today that they will, in association with Marvel Entertainment, develop several new projects in the Spider-Man franchise, with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, and Drew Goddard to collaborate on overseeing the developing story over several films that will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach.

The five writers, along with the two producers and Marc Webb, have formed a franchise brain trust to expand the universe for the brand and to develop a continuous tone and thread throughout the films. Under the deals, the studio announced that Kurtzman & Orci & Pinkner are writing the screenplay for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which the studio hopes Webb will return to direct. That film will go into production next fall for release on June 10, 2016. In addition, the team will build on the cinematic foundation laid by Webb, Arad, and Tolmach in the first two movies. They will expand the franchise with Kurtzman & Orci & Solomon writing the screenplay for Venom, which Kurtzman will direct. Goddard, then, will write with an eye to direct, The Sinister Six, focusing on the villains in the franchise. Hannah Minghella and Rachel O’Connor will oversee the development and production of these films for the studio.

Commenting on the announcement, Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures said, “The Spider-Man film franchise is one of our studio’s greatest assets. We are thrilled with the creative team we have assembled to delve more deeply into the world that Marc, Avi and Matt have begun to explore in 'The Amazing Spider-Man' and 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'. We believe that Marc, Alex, and Drew have uniquely exciting visions for how to expand the Spider-Man universe in each of these upcoming films.”

Arad and Tolmach added, “This collaboration was born out of the great experience we and Marc had working with Alex, Bob, and Jeff on 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'. With more than fifty years’ wealth of stories in the comic books to draw upon for inspiration, the Spider-Man universe is truly boundless; in addition, the Spider-Man comics have the greatest rogues gallery of any series, and to have the chance to explore that on film is truly thrilling. Until now, we have approached each film as a separate, self-contained entity, but with this move, we have the opportunity to grow the franchise by looking to the future as we develop a continuous arc for the story. That is what Alex, Bob, Jeff, Ed, and Drew will do in this unprecedented collaboration, and we’re excited about the directions they are taking the character and the world.”

Amazing Spider-Man 4 is most likely Sinister Six now.

Cool about Venom. Would prefer an Agent Venom movie but will take either.

Frankly i find myself caring less and less with each new announcement all these studios make.

We're getting announcements of movies years and years in advance and more and more movies and spin offs that's it's becoming too much.

Sony is expanding their own Spider-Man Movie Universe at high speed and faster than WB with their DC Universe.

Venom movie could work .but the sinister six ? What are they going to do for two hours come up with a plan to defeat spiderman.

We all really love comic book villains but they pretty much already tend to get a massive chunk of the storytelling. Did we not get enough Bane, Joker, Loki... ?

I think this is a sad and desperate attempt to look more like Marvel and DC built on the back of a very mediocre idea. And if we get 2 hours of the Sinister Six and 10 mins of Spiderman showing up at the end to fight, would it not feel confusing as **** as to who you're supposed to be rooting for?

That was pretty much a completely new trailer there. I thought Aunt May had figured out that Peter was Spider-Man at the end of the first film but I guess I was wrong. Interesting that they are going for the angle from the Ultimate Universe that everybody loves Spidey in NYC.

Doing a villian movie is a good and original idea imo. The villians have alot to them, that's why the movies focus on them so much.

I doubt it'll be just a villain movie but that can be done i reckon. In the Spectacular Spider-Man series there were two fantastic episodes where the mob villians and new super villians had a summit to divide up the city, it escalated into a gang war with the villains facing off. Spidy showed up and defeated them of course but the majority of the fights and story were just them.

What i'm not a fan of is the, like you said the copying Marvel thing that so many movie franchises, even outside of comic book movies are doing. They also shouldn't be announcing them far too soon, we already know 100% that none of the Spidey villains will die or be redeemed and which timeline will take over after DOFP and that Stark will be in Avengers 3
