I don't know if I really buy that. Yes, this whole series has been another lame "let's knock down the character so we can build it back up (and forget to build it back up)" story, but this mando episode really embraced a lot of the Lucas vibe from Episode One in a really effective and fun-to-watch way. Even hearing Din say "Wizard" elicits a smile, not a groan.

Less as a F-you to Lucas, more as talentless hacks with no imagination are at the controls.

Yep the whole second half of the episode was basically a love letter to The Phantom Menace.

I refuse to believe Favreau wrote anything but this episode, as others have said, how can he write this so strongly yet all of the other episodes so poorly?

Robert Rodriguez, Rian Johnson and JJ Abrams should never be allowed near Star Wars again.

Wow. That was.....something. Not at all what I was expecting. I don't watch previews or read rumors so I thought y'all was smoking crack that Mando would even show up for a cameo. And here he gets an entire extended solo episode.

Did the ENTIRE show's budget go to this episode?? Talk about world building!


Am I freaking nuts or did the stuntman playing Mando look just a tad paunchy in the gut? I guess I'm just so used it after all these weeks of Boba Fatt.

Lots to enjoy in this special supplementary episode of The Mandalorian. When he sliced his own thigh with the Darksaber my first instinct was "Smooth move, ex-lax!" but then I realized how dangerous those damn things would be. Interesting that it gets heavier the longer you use it. If the word DARK saber didn't give it away, this is a weapon seeped in the dark side of the Force for sure.


Loved the brief flashback of the razing of Mandalore. Good CGI...didn't look cheap.

I like that Mando's new Naboo Fighter echoes his Razorcrest with a matte silver and some yellow highlights for the color scheme. But I can't help thinking of the amenities his old ship had. Where's he gonna piss and sleep and stuff??

I know you guys don't like Amy Sedaris as the weird old Tattooine lady that does Jawas, but hey....she's "Strangers With Candy" so I can't help but like her. I think it's the wig. Give her anything but that hideous wig and she'd be more tolerable.


Feeling strange. I got all settled in, had some snacks, ready for my weekly hate-watch.....and these MFers go and give me a completely unseen Mando episode instead!! Sheesh.

If next week is about Ahsoka I am NOT watching.

Well this episode made one thing clear, the problem with the Boba Fett show, is Boba Fett.
Cause this Episode without him, was the absolute best!

Episode definitely made me realize how much I miss Mando and his story line. And that we've been spinning wheals with Boba.
Even with how intentionally pedestrian they made Mando riding public transportation, elevators, taking the bus, and the longest dragged out at the mechanic montage/(toy commercial).

Every single moment was still more compelling than anything in the Bobo show.

Not only does Mando's (and possibly Grogu's) story continue here, his "ship", the spectacular new location of what survived of his Covert, we get full exposition (and some stunning visuals) and flashback about the past history and fate of Mandalor, the Darksaber, and the episode reinforces Mandos quest going forward.

Seeing him wield, claim the right to, and train with the Darksaber, and everything that sets up, is fantastic.

That his instinct is still to want armor to take to little Grogu, was embarrassingly heart warming.
And that along with everything else, speed and muscle, the new ship has a suspiciously designed canopy to showcase maybe a little passenger, brought me pure joy

This ep. in case it wasn't obvious from the title : Return of the Mandalorian, . is a must watch, non Bobo ep, and a defacto Mando ep, 16.5 / opener for Mando S3.
Do not miss it.

Yeah, expect for Fennec's 20 second cameo, you can skip this altogether if you're actually re-watching BoBF (WHYYYYY would anyone do that??) But it's absolutely essential as episode 0 of Mando season 3.

This episode sounds fantastic.. Can't wait to watch it Friday night.

I said like 2 weeks back that something was up with this show. It was obviously done too fast and forced into production by Disney. I bet behind the scenes that this was done on purpose by Favreau's camp to be KK's final nail in her coffin.

Remember, they had planned a Boba Fett spinoff movie like Solo way before the Mando was made by Favreau/Filoni. Maybe this was the treatment, and Disney told Favreau to go with it. Knowing it would fail Favreau went ahead with it and wrote it so dumb as to drive home with Disney that her story group has no clue what they were/are doing.

This will be the highest rated and streamed episode of TBOBF, and it doesn't even have Boba in it....

I thought the same thing about the stuntman! At times it seemed that even the way he walked (before he hurt his leg lol) was slightly different to Mando's gait in seasons 1 & 2. Probably the same guy & it was just my imagination, but I'll be comparing the credits nonetheless.

Yeah I think Amy's great as Peli Motto. I don't get the hate...

Not only that, he was a Fatt bloated overconfident crime lord surrounded by useless lumpen goons.

OK, don't everyone lash out at me all at once, but it just occurred to me that maybe we're being set up for the ultimate bait-and-switch: As Din misses Grogu and is clearly reluctant to claim the mantle of leader of Mandalore (and he is resisting becoming one with the Darksaber), could Boba Fett somehow "best" him in combat at the end of the season and claim the Darksaber? I laughed out loud typing that last part, but I could see that as a way of (a) bringing out the ruthless Boba everyone has been expecting and (b) satisfying the character's desire to be the one in charge. IDK, I could see the blade amplifying his pent up hostility & vice-versa. And probably even Boba is smart enough to realize that an army of Mandalorians (or just one, for that matter) will offer him more protection than the Mos Vespa gang.

Same here, and if for no other reason, it was great watching Mando have to remove and store ALL of his weapons. I thought this scene was going to lead to some trouble for him, but even just played for some levity, it was great.

It would make sense from a narrative perspective especially after showing the mythosaur symbol in this episode which is on Boba's armour. Plus we all now how much Boba likes animals now, especially riding them like a Bantha. That and he doesn't really seem cut out for the crime lord business, more the ruling benevolently business. No lashing out because it wouldn't surprise me. This would have been a completely plausible scenario at the end of Mando season 2...before the dark times...before Boba became Shemp Howard... If they try that crap now they're going to ruin Mando and Boba in one 7 episode series!
