I finally saw Justice League this weekend. I actually watched it twice because I couldn't remember much after the first viewing. It's a difficult movie for me to review. If I take it as a stand alone film and consider it just as entertainment, then it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. However, taking into consideration how it's supposed to continue from the other films and looking at it as a DC fan...I go back and forth between disappointment for all the lost opportunities that would have made the film better and disgust at how they treated the characters overall.
The Good:
--Superman kicking everyone's *****. I could watch that **** on repeat for an hour.
--Pretty much every scene with Cavill if I ignore what they did to his face.
--Batman's line "He's more human than I am" line about Superman. It was one line, but it was the best Batman moment Batfleck's had and was 100% true to the character.
The Bad:
--Superman's upper lip
--The sketchy CGI for everything: Cavill's face, Steppenwolf, and Cyborg's bobble head were horrible
--Lame jokes: I think there were two or three parts that I laughed, but the rest made me embarrassed for the actors being made to say those lines.
--Aquaman: I like Mamoa. He was awesome in Conan and Game of Thrones, but he's not ****ing Aquaman. Not only did they **** up the character with all their stupid "Woooo! **** yeah!" ******** and parademon surfing into a splash page pose, but all I could think of every time he was on screen was that I wish he'd been cast as Lobo instead.
--Batman: Ugh. I don't think I'm going to waste my time typing about him. Let's just say I actually preferred murder-happy Batfleck in BvS over comic relief Batfleck. Such a waste...
--Lois Lane: Ugh again. I don't like her as Lois, and though I understand why they had her in this film, I still got irritated when she was on screen.
--Steppenwolf: Stupid design + **** CGI + generic "take over the world" plan = Forgettable villain
--Every character in the film that felt like it was ok to shout someone's secret identity while in public. It ****ing happens in all of these new DC films and it's ****ing ridiculous. Lois Lane shouts out "Clark" to Superman in front of the cops in MOS and JL, Maquaman Randy Savage calls Bruce Batman in front of the ****ing villagers, Flash can't keep his mouth shut when the Bat-signal goes up, etc.
I'm starting to get mad again as I type all this so I should probably stop or this will turn into a full on rant. I will say that this is easier to watch again than BvS. I think I'd rank the new DC films: MOS, WW, JL, BvS, SS.
I saw it once in the theatres with my kids and that was enough for me. But then my kids wanted to watch it again a few weekends ago, so we streamed it on Kodi. It did not get better with the 2nd viewing, which really bothers me because Batman is my #1 comic book hero. I even caught myself falling asleep during it.
Glad to hear you finally got to it, Zod.
I stand by my review and say that Justice League is a 1/5 movie for me. Like I said, it's nowhere near as offensive as BvS and SS but nothing to write home about either. The best thing about it is that they finally got Superman as close as he should have been characterized in the first place but at the cost of pointlessly killing him in the prior movie, which as you can see went totally nowhere. Yet again, each DCEU movie is an apology for the previous film but that won't fix anything at this point, the damage has long been done.
If this movie was made in 1995 it would have been awesome because it's shallow yet harmless but as stands, it's still yet another DC film that misses the mark. At the end of the day, I'm glad I saw it to get it over with it since by now I've already forgotten what the heck happened- it's pure junk food and I didn't became a lifelong DC fan because I wanted empty calories.
