What do you guys think?

Consider this an early Halloween present from me to you: "Pushing Daisies" mastermind Bryan Fuller is toiling away on a modern-day reboot of the creepshow classic "The Munsters."

So far, NBC, with whom Fuller has an overall deal, has only ordered a pilot. But since the potential series is being described to me as "Modern Family meets True Blood," I have a good feeling about it.

Not only that, but rumor has it no less than Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy) is eyeing a behind the scenes role in the project.

So, um, once you've picked your jaw up off the floor, let's see the synonyms for "amazing" you come up with to describe the very notion of this show below.

This will fail. The Munsters I love but its a kitchy nostalgia that has me watching an episode here and there not because the show was one of those groundbraking innovative shows. The Addams Family, The Munsters, Gilligan's Island, I Dream of Jeanie, etc are all shows that worked then but won't work now. Besides people will just take the archetype and apply it other places, one could argue that Lost was just a more serious, updated Gilligan's Island anyway. :lol

Mike that sig is awesome! :drool :lol

I like the munsters so i'll give it a go when it comes along.

They tried it before and it failed miserably. For one thing, they need to keep it black and white.

NOW That is a Good idea that will never be done! :(

Unfortunately I agree... there is no way this will make it a 2nd season.

I don't know? I'm not so quick to dismiss this because of this:

Let's see..."modern family meets true blod"...the Pushing Daisies creator behind it...

What we are going to have is "The Gay Munsters".

Grandpa will be shimmering in the sunlight and Eddie will be the epitome of the pretty boy, sensititve, feminine Werewolf. Ashton Kutcher playing Herman and...and...and...

Let's just not go there.

The latest news-

TV’s original American horror story is taking another step toward returning to primetime: NBC has ordered a pilot of Bryan Fuller’s remake of the classic TV show The Munsters.

The new version of the half-hour sitcom is bring re-imagined by the Pushing Daises creator as an hour-long series exploring how the monster house came about, and will have a darker and less campy feel than the black-and-white original.

The Munsters was launched the same year as the rather similar Addams Family, which goes to show in this season of dueling fairy tale dramas (Grimm, Once Upon a Time) that networks haven’t changed all that much. While Addams was based off Charles Addams’ New Yorker cartoons, the Munsters patriarch Herman was basically a play on Frankenstein.

There’s a couple other projects that could impact The Munsters‘ fate. NBC is also developing a remake of Frankenstein from House producers Garrett Lerner and Russel Friend, while Fuller is working on another monstrous project for NBC — a series version of Thomas Harris’ Hannibal Lecter novels.

There’s no reason why NBC couldn’t opt to make more than one of these titles, but of these three I’d most like to see the Hannibal series (and bet, as a crime procedural, it would have the best odds for success). What do you think — can a cleverly done monster family show work in 2012?

The Munsters without Fred Gwynne and Al Lewis, no thank you.

Also, a darker Munsters? That show already exists, it's called Being Human.

Just a bit of trivia...

The creators of the "Munsters" also created "Leave it to Beaver".

This will have little to do with the original Munsters - thank God. Instead, it seems like it's more of an adult themed family of monsters sort of angle - I'll give it a shot. Pushing Daisies was great, and Del Toro does creatures better than anyone. Calling it Modern Family meets True Blood works for me, since I love both shows.

It actually sounds more like a modern version of Dark Shadows, which we already have, and yes, it's called True Blood.
