Between Marvel and DC, within the next six years, we'll have seen 19 comic book films. That's 19 in the main universe, not counting franchises belonging to other studios like X-Men, Spider-Man, and FF, the (possible) film slate from DC's Vertigo imprint, or the undated solo films for Superman and Batman. It's definitely an exciting time to be a superhero time, but it's also quite daunting. Between all of those, you're nearing thirty comic book films within the next decade, and that's not even counting all of those we've already seen. It's completely possible that people may feel some franchise fatigue, and we may not see more comic book films for quite a while, so, with that being said, my question is this: what will dethrone the juggernaut that is the comic book blockbuster?

Westerns are dead until we go back to the Stone Age... Today's youth need speed and tech. They have no tolerance for the old days unless it's fantasy. I think sci Fi fantasy is it. The Superhero genre will be with us for a very long time. Right now it's unstoppable. Star Wars and Star Trek are back too along with Avatar soon. But for now Superhero will be king for years and years.

Eff da movies, bring on the Fembots! That's where my entertainment dollar is going!

Space will be the new frontier. Star Wars, Star Trek, stuff like Elysium, Interstellar, It seems like it is already happening.

Look at how well Gravity did, everyone loved that so much, I wouldn't be surprised if other studios want to get more of that. Sci Fi's time is coming guys.

I'm surprised that Transformers didn't usher in an era of anime/mecha movies. If each Bayformers makes a billion where is Macross/Robotech, Gundam, Appleseed, etc?

Other than that I think Video Game movies are poised to be the next big thing.
