Do I care:rolleyes:

Has Thor director Kenneth Branagh found his god of thunder?

According to Latino Review, Branagh recently had lunch with Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård, the 32 year-old, 6'4" son of Pirates of the Caribbean and Mamma Mia! star Stellan Skarsgård. The site confirmed that the two did indeed meet at the restaurant mentioned in the article, and that they share the same agency.

Alexander Skarsgård is best known to stateside audiences for his work on the HBO series Generation Kill and True Blood, where he plays Viking vampire Eric Northman.

A casting notice that appeared online recently said the filmmakers are looking for a male in his mid-to-late 20s, 6' or taller. The notice described the character of Thor as: "Physically powerful, very handsome, occasionally egotistical, petulant, and wild. A natural warrior with a quick charming wit who must be genuinely and severely humbled before becoming the compassionate, mature hero of our film."

He actually wouldn't be too bad. I remember him from True Blood and he actually looks like he can fit the bill.

Yup, that's the dude! He has the looks, but he might need to bulk up a little bit, plenty tll enough though 6' 4". If they do go with him I think he'd make a good choice.

Not old for me. :rock

He'll do nicely. I've not seen True Blood (don't have HBO), but he's certainly got the look. Good bit of casting from what I can see.

Get True Blood on Blu or DVD, it's a great show!

From his appearances on the show, I think he's got the presence to pull this off.

didn't think about him. add about 20 lbs of muscle and he'll be good to go. great choice IMO.

Dude looks like a Thor

I think Thor would be better being 30ish. Hollywood seems to think everyone wants to watch people just out of their teens.

For some reason, I always pictured Thor looking a bit like Chris Jericho from the WWE...

They look pretty similar IMO. Only big difference is the muscle. Plus Skarsgard has some acting talent! Besides, the name Skarsgard just SOUNDS viking :D

Thor and Avengers Buzz
Latest rumors about what Marvel has up their sleeve.
by Jim Vejvoda

March 13, 2009 - Marvel wants Jon Favreau to direct The Avengers so badly -- and so does he -- that that's why they delayed the film's release from July 15, 2011 to May 4, 2012 so that his duties on Iron Man 2 wouldn't prevent him from directing Avengers.

At least that's what a purported Marvel insider has told Ain't It Cool News. AICN's mole also claims that Thor director Kenneth Branagh does indeed want True Blood's Alexander Skarsgård to play the god of thunder in his film adaptation, and -- confirming a suspicion held by IGN -- wants to cast Alexander's dad Stellan Skarsgård (Pirates of the Caribbean) as Thor's father Odin, which is said to be a glorified cameo.

Branagh's rumored interest in casting Josh Hartnett as Thor's half-brother (and god of mischief) Loki is said to be true, with the insider insisting that Marvel approached Hartnett "because Branagh's a big fan of the Othello adaptation O where Hartnett played Iago who is very similar character wise to how he sees Loki." Branagh played Iago in the 1995 film version of Othello.

Thor's release date was recently shifted from July 16, 2010 to June 17, 2011.

I really think Marvel is onto something with how they are handling all this. And if they get Skarsgard's father to be Odin, well thats just perfect. I have faith that Branagh knows what he is doing. I have faith in Favreau and have faith in Marvel. Those long term contracts are genius and it's a shame more studios don't employ them when it makes sense. It's just a shame they cannot reclaim their other properties and really make the Marvel Universe complete.

Seems like good casting for Thor and actually casting someone who looks appropriate for the part is even better.

I'm really liking how Thor is shaping up - the original script is great, although I hear they're changing it up so that Donald Blake and modern day is involved -neither are in the first draft at all.

And Branaugh has always been one of my favorite directors - it's sad he hasn't directed more in the past few years.
