Good for Marvel. This movie was a risk - risk with the director and all that. I'm still impressed that Taika Waititi said that he had never handled a movie with this kind of scale and budget before. Because to me as the film moves from location to location, all the environments feel "finished" and detailed. Fully fleshed out. Can't imagine the work that went into the frames. The film is cohesive.

Vs. reading about how the Mummy's director supposedly was overwhelmed by the scale of the film and Tom Cruise basically was stepping in and dictating. Don't know how true that all is but Mummy is a movie I want my rental fee back for.

Damn. Almost double thor 1 opening weekend and and 40% more than dark world. I guess most people do like comedies huh. That second weekend drop will make or break its bank

Yup that will tell it all although Spiderman did bounce back handsomely from it’s perceived failure after that not so stellar 2nd weekened drop.

China helped Spiderman cross over into the WIN side.

Don’t do it JAWS.....IM3 had that horrible action climax.

Thor 3 blows away IM3/AOU and even though that triple attack on Ultron was bad ass and it served as a decent quick origin story for Vision plus his conversation with Ultron at the end was very well written overall it’s not even as good as the first Avengers movie.

TWS/CW/Thor 3 are now my top 3 MCU movies.

Thor 3 bumped Avengers, doh!

W....... T........ F..........

If I recall you use to like AOU a lot.. Even with repeat viewings... But know the ton of this sounds like you don;t think its all that good except for a moment or two...

Don't worry, with a few more views you will come to my way of thinking on Thor 3 :) ;)

Hey now I didn’t say I hate AOU.

Now that I think about it time for another viewing.

If it has superheroes doing cool stuff they couldn’t do in the 70’s/80’s i’m good.

Now don’t go start confusing me with the super uptight critical people in this forum now. :tap

But i’m not rewatching Kong that’s where I draw the line.

Personal opinion of course...

Top Tier Marvel

The Winter Soldier
The Avengers
Iron Man
Civil War

Better then Average

GOTG
GOTG 2
The Incredible Hulk (time is not being good to the CGI in this film though)
Ant Man

Middle of the road

Spider-man
Captain America: The First Avenger
Thor
Thor 2

Bottom of the Barrel

IM3
IM2
AOU
Thor 3
Dr Strange

Kong was way better then Thor 3

And I did not like Kong on my second viewing :lol

Yeah but you came back down to earth on that one...

I refuse to believe Thor 3 will stay in your top 3.. :lol

Too many tiers for my tastes lol

Too complicated I like easy.

For me Doctor Strange is the weakest of all the MCU movies.

Everything else I find good in them including IM2/IM3/TDW/AOU or greatness in them like TWS/CW/Avengers/Thor 3.

Even the Dormammu confrontation was decent but the rest of the movie is just blah, really bland.

Done.

Look I can’t help it i’m just a sucker for superheroes.

So... my analysis of this versus the previous Thor films:

Thor 1 vs. Ragnarok - no comparison.

TDW vs. Ragnarok - TDW I gave a 6.5/10 if I recall correctly and I gave this a 6/10, so TDW has come off as the ever so slightly superior of the two. I think both this and TDW have the same amount of problems but for different reasons - TDW has a cliched and predictable storyline but takes itself more seriously and respects its scale more, while Ragnarok has far superior story elements but then flushes them down the drain with the humor. Obviously I find Ragnarok the better of the two villain-wise and entertainment-wise, but those are really the only two things it has going for it against TDW.

The only really good Marvel movies are The Winter Soldier, Iron Man, The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. Each of those 4 completely covers drama, origin/adventure story, an action movie and a comedy.

If you've seen Winter Soldier, you've seen a much better version of Civil War. If you've seen Guardians of the Galaxy, you've seen a much better version of GOTG 2 and Thor 3. If you've seen Avengers, you've already seen a much better version of AOU. If you've seen Iron Man, you've already seen a superior version of Dr. Strange, Ant-Man, Iron Man 2-3 etc. etc.

It's just the same crap recycled over and over again.

I really do think it's a combination of things. This film has been mentioned in the press as "a comic book movie for people who hate comic book movies". Some folks I guess are looking for a hint of Infinity War. The critics are gushing love. A lot of audiences are in love too - e.g. saw someplace that 1/3 wanted to see again. It's freakin' funny but at the same time just a well-made film. You've got Hulk, Loki, AND Hela. Jeff Goldblum. I think the first trailer won a lot of people over - I know I couldn't stop watching it when it was released e.g. this film IMO had a lot of good will from the start.

Like I thought Dr. Strange is a good film, good performances but it was just missing something a bit - a more layered script - I dunno. *In general* I think Thor 3 is one of the better MCU films, in a pool where I think there hasn't been a film where any of them suck outright. There's just my favorites and not-my-favorites. Too bad the BO competition will come up with Black Panther and IW, even if it's comparing apples and oranges. (Tho I think BP and especially IW are gonna collapse vaults w. the cash they bring in$$$$. IMO BP can't fail even if the film sucked - which it won't - being the lead-in to IW)

Also, I can't think of anything else I'd pay to see right now. (I'll go to JL if there's a lot of *positivity* but right now re trailers and scenes I find the shifts in Affleck's face alarming (WTF??? CGI face???) and so are the over-saturated colors and lines that seem to be borrowing from the Avengers. To me, BA just looks miserable like he wants to be someplace else).
