So, I'm reading Lord of the Rings finally and for the first time, although I did once make it to the point I am a long time ago. I'm just leaving Tom Bombadil's house, and it got me wondering.

Do any of you think there is any possibility of Sideshow incorporating the character into the maquette line? And if they were to do so, would you be game to buy one? I would be game, as long as the quality and craftsmanship are on par with what we have seen in the line thus far.

I imagine Tom would make a nice SDCC exclusive one of these days, since those can be of the smaller edition size and for the hardcore fans, without angering anyone who wants all of the "key" characters from the films. What do you guys think?

I'd pass. Honestly, this last time reading it was the first time reading FOTR that I didn't get bored a bit with Tom.

I don't know that the rights carry over to characters from the books that were not included in the movies, but I could be wrong.

If Sideshow were to ever produce a "one-off" book character as an exclusive for San Diego, I would be okay with it being Tom, and I would actually find that as an exclusive to be pretty charming.

I hate exclusives though, and I hope that the maquette or the premium format line avoid any sort of exclusives. It reminds me too much of the chrome/variant/hologram/polybagged days of comics, and I would try to stay away.

I doubt they ever do a maquette for a Comic-Con Ex as these pieces are too big to carry around the Con.

Tom would be a bit smaller than the two which have shipped already, and likely just a bit larger than the Mount Doom exclusive from a couple of years ago. BTW, what scale were Frodo and Sam in that one?

Can't wait to see the pairs of Hobbits in the maquette line...

Personally, I have zero interest in a Bombadil maquette myself. I never cared for the character in the book, and he wasn't in the movie so an easy pass for me.

Where's FE....calling FE :lol

I wouldn't buy one but I would vote yes just so he could, he has been campaining long enough :lol :rock

If they were to stay true to scale it would be the normal 1:6th scale the rest are in and he would be good size. I don't think they'd shrink him down just to make an exclusive. Now, they could do something like a Gollum Ex that would work scale wise. Still decent size boxes are no fun at all.

10 to 4 votes in the negative direction. Oh well. Have I seen the last of Tom if I'm getting to The Prancing Pony in my reading? Still, I may solicit SS with this suggestion.

Easy pass for me too...there are far too many other great characters yet to be done in this fantastic maquette line. :clap

No kidding. I'd prefer SS to concentrate on every primary, secondary and assorted bad guy character that was in the movies over a character that even PJ rejected. :lecture

Question submitted to "Ask Sideshow" which I do very rarely...

After the exciting start to the LOTR maquette line, I began reading the book once again, and although I ran this by the freaks message board with very tepid response, I'm still left wondering. Is there any possibility of seeing characters not portrayed in the film but important to the story as a whole? In particular, I am interested in seeing Tom Bombadil represented in the maquette line, and could see him very well suited to be a SDCC exclusive release some time in the future. Does the license allow for such interpretations in the new and amazing maquette line? I surely hope so.

Now, just to wait six to nine months for a response, which will surely be "No." :lol

I'd like to sit down, have a beer and shoot the ____ with Tom Bombadil, but I don't think I'd want a figure of him. :duff

Fury, i've asked them this before, in the SSW days, and more recently i've asked both Sideshow and Weta individually..... and i wouldn't hold your breath! If you want, get the bust by Gentle Giant.

It's Sideshow maquettes for me from here on (with the one exception of the Gollum PF) and I gave up on GG years ago after seeing how they deal with customers.
