Technically, he said yes to the role, but couldn't do it because of Magnum.
Anyways, he would have been just as good if not better than Ford. He's got the look and the playful personality that makes him very likable. Not sure about the mustache tho.

Video is funny except that the face doesn't match the mannerisms.
You got a strange looking Selleck acting like Ford. He wouldn't have. Watch High Road to China if you want to see how Selleck would have played as "Indy"... and you'll see why he isn't right any more than Eric Stoltz would have been as Marty McFly.

On top of that, he chose to honor his commitments with CBS, Belisarius, Larson, and Universal instead of asking to be let out of his contract. He asked if it was possible to do it after Magnum shooting ended, but it didn't line up with their schedule, so he declined. Honorable.
This is more correct.
Selleck was just cheesy in the 80's. He was the Jason Momoa of his time -- handsome but a goof.
